what mods need to be done to the rails for K55 rubber on my gold crown 1. I purchased the table a few days ago it is all apart and I am in the middle of putting it back together. Labor of LOVE no rush trying to get it right sanding now painting to come. I understand I will have to modify the rails to accept K55 rubber but not sure what to do. Can you point me to an existing post or thread I couldn't locate one?

Good chance it may be original how can I tell if it has already been modified?

Thanks for your help,
Allen

First thing you should do is measure your existing cushions to see what's already on it. If it has K55 like they should, the top should measure 1-1/4" and if they happen to have K66 for some reason (only if it's been modified) they will measure 1-3/8" across the top. To my knowledge, a GC1 never had anything but the K55 profiles.

If I'm wrong, I'm CERTAIN I will be corrected. :bash:

The Monarch cushions that were on the GC1, GC2, and some of the early Super Speed cushions of the GC3 were all about 1/8 inch smaller from the point of the cushion to the back. Jump to today, with the Super Speed cushions, the Diamond Black cushions, and the Artemis Int K55, if any of these are installed, the playing surface is not correct 50x100 anymore. The fix includes cutting the sub rail back at the correct angle, and also adjusting the height of the rail as well....I hope that answered your question.

Modifying the table requires specialized tools that would not be worth it to you to do just one table. The front of the subrail needs to be cut and angled properly, and the height needs to be adjusted as well. If you are in Vegas get a hold of Gordon Graham is screen name is PUTT4DACA$$H. He will be able to help you out with getting your rails modified if thats the rout you decide to go with.
