I posted this in the "ask a mechanic forum" and have had no replies so I am trying here as well.
" I just got a Gold Crown 4. Cushions seem to rebound real slow. I am using it in an unheated and unfinished basement. Temp about 55 to 60 degrees. Does this have any effect?
Place I got it from would replace cushions for just the cost of the cushions. No Labor cost.
Which cushions should I select if I decide to have them replaced.
Thanks in advance for your advise."

Brunswick Super Speed only.

yes, an unheated basement with 55 degree temperatures will affect cusion rebound, no matter what cushions you put on that table. I know this from personal experience as i had a Brunswick and an Olhausen in unheated basements in the northeast for 14 years.
Only when i finished my current basement and push the heat up to 70 degrees down there does My Gold Crown 4 seem to approach table speeds in crowded, heated pool halls, given the same Simonis Cloth. There are two factors at work here, one is that slates absorb moisture and slow down unless heated- that is why European carom tables have heated slates, secondly, rubber also will rebound slower at colder temperatures- that is a scientific fact.
I would not waste your money on new cushions without first installing some sort of heating system, even if you "preheat" the playing area with space heaters about 30 minutes prior to you basement practice sessions, that will help somewhat if you cannot afford or desire to finish the basement with insulation and a permanent heating system.
