Im going to look at a gold crown f/s in my area and was wondering how i can tell the difference between a gc2 and 3? The table is apart and i could send some pics of table if it helps id it. The owner said the sides were painted at one time but all paint was taken off and wood is stained now. Also what type of cloth would you all recommend for good playability but durable cause kids are going to use it also? I might be able to get table for $1300 good/bad price?
Thanks for input. JK

Look at the pocket castings. GCII are aluminum finish, GC III are copper finish which wore off in time.

1300 is a good price.

Yeah, tony is right obout the castings, also gc 1 and 2s had the
painted aprons, legs and stretchers. Have seen lots of people
strip them and refinish. some good and some bad.:)

I would have to say that if there was "Paint" involved, then it's not a GC3, as no GC3 has ever been painted to my knowledge, but GC1's and 2's were, on the side skirts and leg pedestals.

PS. I know the GC3's came out with a high-tec gloss black look, but I don't know of anyone that would change the color of that to stained wood, with gloss black top rails.

Trim on GC 1 & 2's rails are held on with flat head screws and 3 & 4 were pressed on and stapled which makes them hard to remove.

Gc 1&2 have pinned slate and only a few gc3 had pinned slates before being outsourced to another country.

also blind rails are bolted on GC3, 1&2 used extruded aluminum to form a clasp when installing the blinds. They will use usualy 4 x 4" pieces of aluminum per long rail and 3 on the short rail.

I wil take some photo's of my GC I have It's dated 1963 on all the casting's...

Thanks for input about tables, seen your pics of setting one up and learned a few things. This table has silver castings and the pedestals are threaded so i believe it to be a gc2 that had the paint removed and everything stained. Didnt the gc1's have fiberglass sides and not painted wood?

Naaa...the GC1's were pretty much the same as the GC2's, same sides and fiberglass dust covers attached to the side skirts as well. Both came with painted side skirts.
