Gold Crown III Poor Cushion Rebound

I'd appreciate anyone's suggestions on improving the cushion rebound on a Gold Crown III. New Brunswick superspeed cushions and Simonis 860 helped some, but the action off of the cushions is still no where near as lively as the GC I's, GC II's, or GC IV's in the local pool rooms. Two rail shots that are almost effortless on these tables require too hard of a hit on the GC III to get anywhere near the same results.

Is it possible the new cushions were dead from the factory? Would a different brand of rubber help? Artemis? Thanks for any help.

Did you ask the installer if that was the way the cushions should play? With brand new slippery cloth, sometimes the cue ball seems to slow down off the rail because it doesn't lose it's rolling spin at contact and has some left as it comes off the cushion, so it goes slower. But if the cushions still seem slow after two weeks, there may be something wrong with the rubber. If you shoot the cue ball straight up and down the table, you should be able to hit the far cushion three times. Artemis has a good reputation. The rubber on GC IIIs does not.

Thanks for your reply. Shooting straight up and down the table, there is no way to power the ball hard enough to hit the far cushion three times. The ball barely gets off of the near cushion on it's way to try to get to the far cushion for the third time. I'll have to check with the installer. I had the new Brunswick superspeed cushions installed specifically to correct the slow rebound and am very disappointed. I don't know if Artemis will fit the Gold Crown but will check with the installer.
