Is is practical to put carom rails on a gold crown pool table to play with carom balls or should I just buy a carom table? I ask this because I think it is easier to find a gold crown than a carom table.

Depends on what size carom table you're talking about???

Gold crown have caroom rubber on them just someone installed pockets on it too. sorry couldnt resist.

1. Existing rails wont work to convert.
2. Have to make all new rails and design how to tie in the corners if you want metal corners.
3. Build laminated rails so they wont warp or twist.
4. Design for your blind rails.
5. Calulate your playing size.
6. Determine were to put feather strip.
7. Calculate bevel and rubber hieght for 2-3\8" diameter ball.
8. list goes on to totaly do it right.

Depending on what size table some companies offer already made conversion rails.
Admiral for 8' tables thats all they make.
Ohlahousen might still make some.

Most dont make the rails right usualy out 2x4 or 2x6 solid wood. not alot of real engineering put into thier product.

There is one company that has put alot of time and money into this particular area recently and they should be releaased this year at the show for 8' and 9' tables. Ie simialer bolt pattern to Brunswick, Ohlahousen and Diamond tables most of you common design tables. This way you can have a true set of Caroom rails that play right.

Like Glen said what size table? there might be a good way or a great way to do it right depending on brand of table or bolt pattern.

I was just wondering how much call there would be for 3 cushion billiards rails to be used on a regular pocket pool table? I know there are companies who can do it for any make table if they have the rails for an exsisting table but would the consumer go through the effort of taking rails of to put others on and then go gack and forth changing rails.

IMHO and note I'm not a professional mechanic.

Don't waste your money with a GC Carom Table. In 35 years of playing 3C I've never seen a GC that plated right even after a professional mechanic/3C Player worked on them new rubber, liner and all.

My theory is they aren't heavy enough and or the rail construction is not strong enough. When you hit a ball against a rail the whole table vibrates and may be the cause of most running short even with brand new cloth. This is my opinion for most Post WWll American made tables.

I know 5 or 6 decent to fantastic tables for sale right now.
Also there's several tables in Houston Area. There's got to be a source for a real table.
