Gold Crown tear down for transport

I may be picking up a 9 foot Gold Crown. My friend and I will go get it ourselves. I need to know what tools I will need and teardown proceedures to be able to safely haul it in an enclosed 6 x 12 Uhaul trailer. Attached is a photo, I am still in negotiations with the owner, and I am not shure why it's missing the corner caps, or not sure what Model it is. I, II, III, IV not real shure, owner doesn't know. Looks like a III.

Thanks for your help.

1. take out the pockets
2. unbolt the rails from underneath
3. lift off entire rail and side skirt at one piece from frame/slate
4. turn upside down mark rails with the corner caps for alignment later
5. slide apart slate as they are doweled together

What I did when I bought my GC3 was place the frame down on the bed of the trailer. I placed the slate on top of the frame and then as one piece I put the rails back on top of the frame to keep everything together. I put the pockets back in for extra support (no need to screw them in). I put some cardboard/blankets on top and then put the legs on top still as one piece.

I moved it this way about an hour and a half from where I bought it and nothing moved.

I would bring a complete socket sets and extensions possibly a drill to make things a little easier if you want.

Thank you for the help, What model Crown does this seem to be?

After speaking more to the owner of the table, he say its in good condition but will need new felt and is already torn down and in storage.
This bothers me, for the following reasons, the tables price seems like a good deal but things are escallating cost wise.

1. needs new felt, bed and rails.
2. He did match mark everything. The company that set it up took it apart and marked everything.
3. How do I check the condition play wise of the rubber.
4. from what he tells me he also took the frame and legs apart, which to me is another, bummer.
No issues with slate, some minor cosmetic dings here and there nothing bad he states. Haven't seen he table in person only the photo I have attached.

What do you guys think for a $1000.00 dollars, a uhaul trailer rental and a three hour drive on way, Owner will help load.

Man, I have been looking for a couple months, this is the best deal I have found. I would be overjoyed to find one even at 500.00, I would probally have a stroke to find one that cheap, but maybe I should keep looking.

What is the best way to remove the cloth?

Slice it down the center of the bed area and remove it from the sides where it's stapled like taking off a band aid by grabbing up the cloth and pulling fast. (after the rails are off, of course) The more staples that come out with the cloth or pull one leg out the less work you will have to remove them all for recovering purposes. Some can be really buried and you don't want to dig them out if possible.

That would be correct:D

its getting pretty darn hard. I bought my GC3 in april of 2011 and have seen maybe 5 since then on CL and I live between, Chicago, Indy, and STL. And none have been that low. I bought mine for 1K but I was in excellent condition. I look on CL and other places all of the time because I just like to look and still dont come up with anything.

im not a mechanic but i would never have done that. I think it took like 15 min to go staple by staple and get all of them out on my table and yes there were a ton. I would think a ripping the cloth like that off would cause damage to the wood and possible screw up any future install of the cloth that is not glued down.

I have done it both ways. More wood is damaged digging out the staples than pulling them quickly with the cloth. Of course they don't all come out and some must be dug out but not nearly as many. A quick pull on a two legged staple leaves no wood damage and a ton of them sticking straight out with only one leg left to pull. Way easier to get a grip. A slow grinding digging motion does plenty of damage. This works on the rails too and saves time and wear. I didn't think of this myself but observed a true pro doing it like this.

There is a gc2 and a piece of brand new simonis for 800 here in southern MD. Pm me if you want the details.
