Gold Dot on shaft, what does that mean?

I have come across some shafts with a gold dot right above the joint collar. Some of these shafts look to me like a 314, and some are one piece.
Could anyone please tell me what this mean?

Hmmm. Let's c. Someone had a gold Sharpie pen and was marking the lay of the grain in the wood. Sounds like a good explaination to me.

What kind of cue? Bludworth?

I know I've seen some of those "Mike Sigel" cues with gold dots. If that helps.

I have seen those second hand radial shafts that some cue makers use and they have a PIN in them and you can see it about 1-2" above the collar. I am not sure what it is for. Maybe it is a cored shaft and that is pushed in there to keep the stuff in?

Ok, it could be for two things, one might be that when that dot is facing up, that is where the least deflection is. Sounds odd, but I know at Valley Forge, Meucci used to put anyone's shaft on a lathe or some machine and find the the point where least amt of deflection would occur.

Secondly, if you consistantly shoot with the dot up, the shaft gets "worn in" the same spot and it's like you are shooting with the exact same condition every time.

It could all be myth, who knows, just what I heard.

It is for glue relief.

The inlayed dot is because there was a hole drilled there for glue relief.

Before the insert is glued/epoxied in, the hole is drilled so the insert can bottom out. Then, a little dot of something is inlayed to fill the hole.

Many cuemakers believe that bottoming out the inserts encourage a more solid hit/feel. Probably true.

It is a gold round dot inlaid into the shaft, above the joint collar.

Could anyone give me any info, please?
