can anyone recomend some. Weve got a 12 foot snooker table locally and since I know how hard those are to find id like to take advantage of it. But i know almost nothing about snooker. the only thing we use the table for is golf. So what are some good books thatll teach me the basics of snooker.
Thanks

I can give you no recommendations on books. I don't think anything has been written in the past 35 years. Most are just basic stuff.

I bought a book by Frank Callan - sight unseen.
A waste of money - his disorganized web site is better.:D

I would suggest that you watch pros playing in the many videos posted in this section. There are many differences to pool because of the small pockets and larger table:

Distance = safety
Breaks are defensive
You will rarely run a ball along a rail unless forced into it.
Pack can be opened when shooting the black and blue, and, if you are really skilled, the baulk colours.

Hey, TxSouthpaw, that's awesome they have one in Corpus. Here in Houston, more and more are popping up. Three pool halls have them and several individuals have one in their house (including me:wink:) Once you get practiced up a bit, I'm sure there are plenty of people here willing to give you a good game!

Joe Davis's Complete Snooker

TXsouthpaw, your best bet is probably to get an old classic like Joe Davis's Complete Snooker. I bought a used copy from a bookseller through Amazon.com. You should be able to find a copy fairly cheaply.

No doubt there are contemporary books available, but if you're any kind of collector then you'll appreciate both the historical and practical value of Davis's book. It includes the most complete instruction on stance I've found in any book.

There used to be a 5 x 10 table in Austin down on Sixth Street, but I believe it was sold off a few years ago to make room for shuffleboard or some such thing.
