Good cue tip shaping tool?

Do you recommend just using a light scuff with the Willard on the tip instead of the pick? I used to pick a lot while playing, like every other rack. But I noticed my tips wearing down faster. So I use a better chalk now and pick less.

If you have to pick your tip that often I would consider getting a better tip. You shouldn't have to pick after every rack or even between racks. If you shape your tip or pick it before going out to play it should hold up just fine unless you are playing over 5 or so hours then maybe you may need to do it again. It will also dry your tip out faster which will harden it (could be a good or bad thing depending on what you like). Yet again if it helps your game and is part of your routine then more power to you! Just my .02.

That's some good information. It pretty much explains why I was going through tips more often than I should. For last few months I pretty much gone to picking once every other night, so its not routine as much. Tips are holding shape longer now.

I ended up going with a Cuetec bowtie, mainly because it was the most decent one my local billards shop carried. It did a defend enough job on my tip--though I imagine I'll get a better one eventually when I save up for the nice cue I've been wanting.

If you need to continually scuff the tip, I would be looking for another tip.
A very light scuff with the Willard's should bring it back . Anything that scuffs sands etc wears away the tip and shortens tip life. That said, a glazed tip that does not hold chalk is no good either.

I was using the tip master 6 in 1 listed in first reply. Found it difficult to use to shape the tip evenly. Then I tried to replace the sand paper and the replacement would not stick to the metal. So I ordered a pool shark pup. I just got it in the mail today...I am thoroughly impressed. After spending all of 90 seconds tops my tip was shaped, trimmed, and scuffed. Took it to team practice and was immediately loved by all. A couple of my team mates are going to order one ASAP after trying it out. Does everything you need and should last forever (no sand paper stickers). I have not tried the others mentioned but I can't imagine they could be any better. Highly recommend the pool shark pup, the original doesn't interest me as I generally do not use powder and my chalk holder works just fine. Buy one you will love it and never regret it.
