What is the difference between an ivory ferrule and a melamine ferrule.I have a predator 314 shaft and the ferrel has cracked. My friend has had his predator shaft drilled out and a dowel inserted with a melamine ferrel installed and he likes it.please help.

Ivory is "elephant" made and is more fragile than the "man made" Melamine. Ivory is more expensive than the Melamine. Hit on either is subjective.

i wouldnt recommend this. ive seen it dont 2 times and they both split. one by me

i would first contact predator for some warrantee

if nothing

contact rat cues here on az he is authorized to reapir with original parts. he will tell you not to do this also.

ive talked with him a few times about this

what do you mean buy subjective, opinion?

Opinion ----

Some players prefer Ivory and others prefer one of the many man made materials.

I have a new customer ---- big big man. He has told me he has tried Ivory on most of his cues but has to change ferrule material --- he just hits the ball too hard and always comes up with cracks in the Ivory ferrule - so his custom cue I am building will have ivory inlays only.

Thanks

I just got off the phone with predator and unfortunately I have one of the recalled shafts that the ferrule wasn't glued properly. The shaft will be returned and repaired buy them.

I have put a lot more melamine ferrules on cues, but I've also seen a lot more broken melamine ferrules than I have seen broken ivory ferrules. In Theory the melamine should be tougher, but I've seen some pretty crappy melamine batches.... I've had some of them split in half while being installed.

same with ivory. sometimes there isnt enough room while taping. i havent had it yet but multiple cuemakers have told me this.

i personally love ivory X. cleans up very shinney and doesnt hold chalk.

if i dont use ivory i use ivory x

The blaze 9-ball and 10 ball tour is in NJ and NY. Always a tough feild of players.
Joss North East Tour also in that area.

i always figured melamine was tougher, but i saw a Mcdermott the other day with malamine and it had cracked for the third time the guy said.it just came apart in layers.i personally have never cracked an ivory ferrule and i never use pads.i would have to agree with you Sheldon, ivory is tougher than people think.also to Littlejohn that modified predator shaft is no problem.i have had at leats 10 done with no problems and Alex Brick has done hundreds with no problems ever.they are actually tougher with the wood tenon i believe.lots of guys in my pool hall like the hit better also,it is a little more solid on the soft shots.
