Just got it and let me tell you it hits AWESOME! I love the feel of the hit, im so glad that I picked this over the viking. Thanks everyone for helping me with all my questions about getting a new cue.

Anyway, its just taking some time to get used to the tip. Everytime I try to draw or follow it miscues or does not do anything. I guess I just need to get used to it.

Another thing I cannot believe is the joint. It looks like it would strip the first time you put it together but it doesnt, crazy!

O well, I am happy.

Stroke

The draw could just be because of your stroke. I don't know though cause I haven't seen the way you play.

I just know that most people that complain a cue won't draw is because they don't have a proper stroke.

Once my stroke was corrected I got to where I would draw the cue ball too much, so then I had to learn about my tip position in order to control the amount of draw.

Sounds like you got a good cue, most McDermott cues play really nice. I have been an avid fan of McDermott cues for years. However don't knock the Viking, they play very well too. In my opinion they are great cues for the amount of money you spend on them.

Good luck with your new cue...................when you get ready to switch out that triangle tip you might want to check out the Snipers! That was the best improvement I made to my McDermott.

you might want to get a different tip. i don't know what kind of tips mcdermots come with but that might be the prblem. that is assuming you're hittin the ball right

I used to have the McDermott Twilight and liked it very much. When my wife bought a Predator for me I no longer had a use for it. I am sure you will be very happy and work on that stroke. :)

Most McDermott cues are Triangle. 8-ball thats cool that your cue hits well. Which Model did you pick up ?

I have one of the cheaper Mcdermott and a Baretta one as well.

Congrats on the new McDermott. I've test shot a few Vikings at the Cue and Cushions in St. Louis and I like them too.

As for the tip, I would recommend that you go to a pool shop and have the tip changed out to either Moori or Talisman. I had a Talisman medium put on my playing cue and I love it.

I replaced a Sumo hard (it was as hard as they come) with the Talisman M and now I can effortlessly draw the lenght of the table. If I miscue it's only because my bridge is on the rail and I didn't make the necessary adjustments.

Those are my two cents worth. If you're a beginner, just work on your stroke and don't focus on the tip, except to chalk it up :o

Thats the wierd thing, I can draw the cue ball the length of the table with my players cue. It almost seems like the triangle tip is smaller.

If the triangle is smaller then drawing should actually be easier. You might want to have someone check your stroke out and make sure you weren't actually poking the ball in order to get draw. (Trust me it is more common than you might think. I did this for years before I actually worked on my stroke and figured out that it was me all along.)

In his signature it says it is a triangle tip! Triangle tips are just fine, I know a lot of players that still use Triangle. Most tips on good cues will not be a problem with drawing. Most of the time drawing is an operator error!

If you could draw the ball well with your other cue, then it's just the tip that needs shaping or replaement. Probably just shaping. Johnnyt
