Got Stiffed

"Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol, morphine, or idealism", gambling or adrenaline...

man you have already beaten the guy out of 200-300 over time which puts you way ahead. the guy simply played you with no money this time and once you got him stuck he raised the bet trying to get out of the trap and got stuck worse and had to find a way out of the place. he invented the "got arrested" story because he has a conscience and feels bad about what he did. at least he called the bar with a story. if you or anyone else on here would call the police or SOMEONES WIFE over 100 dollars you need to get a life. this guy has given you the ammo you need to simply say, after he pays you for this session naturally, that you would rather post the money in the future as you can simply point to this incident as proof that you never know whats going to happen so you would just rather have the money posted. the guy will pay you eventually and you are not out anything but 4 hours time. call the guys wife or cops and you wont get paid(probably) and wont get his action in the future. ease up.

Well, if he really did get busted, it's not an out 'n' out stiffing. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt. On the other hand, there's a guy named "Hughsie" who stiffed me out of $10 back in 1963 and if I ever run into him you can bet I'm going to bring it up.:)

Nobody likes to get stiffed at the end of the night, but look at it this way. This guy is a regular customer and he has been good for payment in the past. He's going to show up in the pool room sooner or later, and you'll have an opportunity to collect then. Furthermore, you still have his stick! You'll get your money soon enough.

Finally, ignore this advice about posting up for $2 and $4 games. The very idea of posting up such paltry sums is ludicrous in and of itself, and you may very well lose your customer by offending him. Let the guy pay you off and continue to entertain him!

Edit: By all means, however, if you're playing with people that you don't have a solid history with, collect after every game or set, and make it a point to post up if significant sums are bet!

Yeah yeah I know I know...But it just gets so hard to ask when it's time to. The last thing I want to do is offend my action and then I don't have anyone to play. I've probably taken 200-300 off this guy in $20 increments and somehow, I'm the best friend he has in that place. So me asking him to post is like his best friend showing no faith. I don't know if he got arrested or not, but I hope he did. I have his wife's phone number (long story). I guess I could call her and ask.

you have the wifes number what does she look like i might have a plan :D :D ;)

Well since you are like his best friend, a best friend would let him have his stick back, forgive the debt and let bygones be bygones.

This is also probably the only way you are going to get him back as a customer. ;) And from now on, TELL HIM and put a limit on the amount of money you are willing to withdraw from this erratic ATM.

Well yesterday, I went 2 and out in a tournament. As I'm walking out the door, my ATM machine is walking in. I quickly pull a 180 to go make my $10 back. So we start off playing for nothing (he always "needs" warm-up games) before going to $2 a rack. Before I know it, I'm up $20 and thinking he's about to quit. I've never made more than $20 off of him before and he's always been good for the money; though sometimes he has to leave for a couple of hours before coming back with the cash. In other words, I know he's good for it so we don't pay out until we're done and we don't post. So I'm up $20 when he decides he's in an extra generous mood and bumps the bet to $4. I'm playing fairly well and he only wins a couple games and soon he's down $64. Now he wants to move to a bar table. Long story short, he wins one, I win one and I'm up 5-0 in the third set. Essentially I'm up $100. He decides he needs to go outside and get stoned so I bang some balls around waiting for him. BTW, I've turned down 3 other games while we've been playing. He calls the bar about 15 minutes later and says he's getting arrested and we'll have to finish later. I didn't talk to him but the bartender relayed the message. So I wasted 4 hours to not get my money. He did leave a cue so I have that but it's worth $50 at most, and a $10 case. Sorry, I'm pissed and I needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

I think it was very polite for him to use his one call from jail to let you know he was getting arrested. Getting arrested is no excuse for quitting and stiffing you. If he were a friend of mine, not only would he have stiffed you, but he would have asked you to post the $5,000 bail and you would have to figure some way of doing it without your wife finding out.

Now if he had died of a drug overdose , you are surely entitled to reach into his wallet and pay up, or take off his lizard boots and keep those as collateral. If he doesn't have the money or lizard boots, sometimes teeth are filled with gold and a little twist with pliers they come right out.

Does he have a car? You can demand the title or failing that, grab the spare tire and the jack. They aren't worth much but you'll sure have a laugh after you've punched a hole in one of his tires!

Well, anyway

Whoa now, let's not get ahead of ourselves. I'm his best friend because I'm the only one who can tolerate his crackheaded antics. And to be honest, I can only tolerate it because he pays me to. This does not make him my best friend. In fact, he might just barely qualify as a friend.

LMAO...I was actually pleasantly surprised when I met her. I'm not quite sure how he was able to pull this one off, but I am impressed. I gave her an 8.4.

Hold on there podnuh. I was just a sayin that you were HIS best friend, not that HE was YOUR best friend. Besides, sometimes being someone's best friend isn't necessarily a two way street but ya gotta know, he ain't a gonna be payin ya any mo money lest ya let him slide a bit on this new set of circumstances and bad luck. :D
