Was there 1-hole at any of joe burns events? was'nt these better than Johnson City be interested to hear some of your thoughts and stories. I was 12 or 13and 16-17 the last one, between the US OPEN 14:1 in CHICAGO and these DAYTON events I really became a pool player. I can recall sitting with Mr. Munson and watching SIGEL-HALL, boy these guys are good Willie HE laughs and said you should see them play with their good arm, they were playing opposite handed andrunning out! Or Keith Hill playing champions with alittle weight if he could get on the table ( he was handicapped-nothing below his knees) I think he beat SIGEL with the 7, or all the guys playing payball(6-ball on6X12?) 20on 1-5 40 on 6 and double on the runot fortotal of 280 youcould win X THE4,5,6,7,8 GUYS who were inand out for 3-4 days Denny Searcy brok the game! Jimmy Fusco playing everybody and betting high, Harley Race making them bet higher, and then
bugs-Diliberto at one-hole wow,and then the King Paul this man had 4or5 eggplantsized rolls of100's setting in his lap. I played nonstop for days mostly cheap but it seems the tables were always going with more action tan DCC. Starting to ramble looking forward to your thoughts, opinions, and
stories of my Field of Dreams! thank you JR

More names from the Forest Park (Dayton All-Around) Swanee, ICEMAN, Harry poochie Sexton, Bob Ogburn standing on his head meditating,J.KERR And watching Mike Carella and Clyde Childress battle for hours, I told Emil Glokar this is like watching two pit bulls fight to the death.

I was there and if I remember right it was one pocket, 9-ball and banks.

Hey JR, I heard some stories about you playing David Matlock, and beating the pants off of Joyner at 1-hole. Can you share some of your road stories?

Also, just wanted to drop a note of thanks. Watching you play at Northfield helped my game immensely when I was learning to play. Is Northfield Billiards still open?

How about Rempe riding in the pool room on his stakehorse? A real horse.

The pay-ball I was in there was always on the 5x10 in the corner by Joe's office, the balls barely went in the pocket, if you just looked you'd think the pockets were smaller than the balls.

I'm pretty sure the last one was in the mid 80's.

Where are you at now JR?, I can't believe you're on a computer. I about fell over when I saw you posting on here. I'm having a little 8-ball tournament June 17 & 18---you ain't barred. You need to get in alot of tune-ups before the big one.

Steve

my own leil gay story

I was 17 and you came in to the side pocket in sandusky oh with a real fat blonde guy after trying to get someone to play you set the other guy up steve knight and you asked me to play I said no so you offered to spot me 100 points in a race to 150 14.1. Then you beat me 150 to 108 and said don't worry kid I'll give you the same thing next time. I never played 14.1 again

That was probably Rossi Norris you made me laugh, truthfully iwas always fair unless you are another fast larry(sybil) heading west 1 week post againthats funny. thanks

Hi Steve good to hear from you i'm heading west soon be on comp. maybe another week tell the wife, kokomo, marc, paula?,and cockroach MIAMI hi. The only thing i beat Joyner at was breaking even with SATAN'S CASINO (poker machine) Cornbread said icould give anyone the eight if they played 24hrs. when is next c.b. memorial? good health to you and family!!

I think Grady and Jay will be light I follow out of pre-school use of forums I hope to be in 1st grade soon, no 1 played Mr. Matlock once and he beat me real bad! I've never gambled with CLIFF i asked for 8-6 he said no the end. Meanwwile send pm so iknow who henho is? Can we go back to the DAYTON EVENTS? Chief of many names has to rest in tepee!

Sorry JR, But you and I are about the same age. You and I have actually met one time in Cleveland when you were working at BJ's. We didn't play, I was downstairs listening to one of Lance Kepler's rants (about mechanical bridges and wheelchair leagues) and you were trying to close. Knowing Lance and how he can talk for hours, you had to throw us out forcefully. lol... it wasn't until after you had tossed us out that Lance told me who you were. *shrugs* I didn't take it personally. I thought it was funny because of Lance's reaction to the entire ordeal.

I didn't mean to make it out like you hustled me, to be fair you gave me 4 open shots and it was only for 20 bucks.I was happy just watching someone who ran multiple racks. After you said the name I remembered his name was rossi

I was at Dayton too. One of the first really big pro events I went to. They were GREAT. Lots of action and that's where I spent most of the weekend. I'd pay to get into the tournament room, but spent most of my time watching the action in the main room. A couple more names from there: Paul Campbell, Dave Favor, Steve Mizerak, Earl Strickland, Buddy, Grady,David Howard, Danny Diliberto, Louis Roberts, Freddy the Beard, And the list goes on and on.
It's a shame things have to change. What a tour that could be. DCC, Dayton, Johnson City, The Clyde Childress Tourney. Non stop action. Sam

For me Dayton was like the 1st time you fall in love I could not wait for next year,I went in store and bought 12 pack different colors magic markers the old man was so tight he copied the stamp to save money we also slept in the car 2 days eating bologna&cheese. He said we had to make some cash before we could get room and a decent meal,he was 400lbs and short-tempered nobody talked back to him.

I wish our 1st meeting was better Blackjack but I'LL MAKE IT UP TO YOU HAVE A LIST OF 14:1 RULES i wrote and have decided to share, read one of your posts aabout sharing knowledge so it will be coming before I head west(10 days) and as payment for all AZers who have been putting up with bad spelling, grammar, rambling etc. THIS 1 FINGER TYPING SUCCS!

I checked with a co-conspiritor who has better recall than I about the
Burns bashes

there was a One Pocket division one year, won by Jimmy Marino from
Pittsburg - he lost to Buddy Hall in the playoff for all around Champ

our best combined recollection is the first year in the 'back room'
had three games 9 Ball, One Pocket, Bank Pool

the first 2 or 3 events were 9 Ball only
Joe sort of inherited the tourney from a room nearby
the owner<know as 'Clubby', IIUC> knew some of the road players
who played in Johnston City, they would stop in Dayton for a quick
9 Ball Jamboree on the way home from J/C

not sure why they moved it to Forest Park - other room might have
closed

boy, them was the days...

For anyone who didn't get the priveledge of playing in one of Joe Kerr's events. You'll never know what a class act is. The first time I played in one of his events he welcomed me to the tournament and shook my hand like I was a top name player. I was just some guy from Indiana who played pretty good and wanted to play with the best. I won a couple of matches and got knocked out by Bucky Bell and another guy who's name I don't recall. I went to a lot of Joe's tournaments as both a spectator and player before and after that first one and he always did a first class job.
Thank's Joe, for all you did for pool and best wishes for you with your health. Sam
