Here is a link to Grady playing 9 ball. Oh, this is where he placed 2nd to Nick Varner for the 89 World Championship. Oh...and Nick won...ON THE HILL. It was anyone's match and Grady dominated this tourney. Nick (as they said if you ever have the entire match on tape which I have)...had an Angel on his shoulder that year and just won everything in site.

BTW - this is the first match I ever saw on t.v....or had recorded on VHS. I've seen this match about a million times, and still enjoy watching it.

I also enjoyed the interview with him. He had all the confidence in the world going in and played fearlessly. Our beloved professor has a very good 9 ball pedigee to go along with his talents in 14.1, banks and 1 pocket.
And let's not forget Varner, one of the greatest champions ever in our great sport. What a grinder! Freddie reminded me of what I think is one of the best nicknames in pool when he said that Hubert Cokes fondly called Varner "The Little Gorilla".

Nick is one of my all time favorites......right up there with Grady, the Miz, Sigel.....wow - all great talents.

Was in Reno, 20+ back, Grady playin' Buddy, score 6-0 or 7-0, going to 9Grady was winning, Hall at that time was a relentless 2-3 racks per miss, so you'd "better not miss". Grady had a 60% make shot but the out was still "tough" Grady commented about keepin' him in his seat...Grady stuk em good and ended up beating Hall 9-0.

I have the semis and finals of this tournament on DVD and what I find hard to belive is how slow the table plays this was some heavy wool cloth. A few shots hit real hard and the cue ball dosen't hit the other end, it looks alot worse than IPT cloth was.--Leonard

Nice video. This was played at Caesars Palace and Pat Fleming and I co-directed it. I see Weenie Beenie in the front row, Tom Shaw from P&B Mag,
Ronnie Allen and myself for a brief moment at the beginning of the tape.

This is the tournament where Jean Balukas played Robin Bell in the Finals and went off on her when she made two 9's on the Break in a row. Jean won the tournament, but was fined $200 by the WPBA. She refused to pay the fine and never played a pro tournament again. Retired at 29.

Oh, and Joe Kerr is the referee.
