I was thinking of adding some Grady mathews videos to my collection. Has anyone checked them out? How would you rate them and what are some of the better ones? Any feedback is much appreciated, RJ

Grady is a genius, a billiard expert and world class player. Every thing the man has done is fabulous, acquire it all, you will learn a ton. He has never said a single thing that I did not agree with him on. I have taken a lesson from him also 10 years ago and he is also a good teacher. :p

I had one of Grady"s tapes back in the early 90's. The tape was not made real well from a production standpoint, looked and sounded like it was shot with a camcorder. But from the instructional side it was the best I have seen, the man is an excellent teacher, he really broke down the diamond system to wear even a novice player could have an understanding. I would highly recommend any of Grady Matthews' videos.

See my critique on CCb.

Anyhone know who invented the Diamond System? I mean the person who decided to put them on tables and explained how they were to be used. Or were they just there for asthetic reasons and someone figured out a shot system out of them?

Grady belongs in the Hall Of Fame. Not only for his playing and teaching ability but for his greatest ever attitude toward the game. My hat has always been off to the "Great", "Professor" Grady.

End game tape is fabulous

I agree with everyone's opinion of Grady and I too would like to see him in the Hall of Fame, Grady's end game tape for one pocket is an absolute must for anyone who gambles at one pocket. Highly support the vast majority of his tapes, I have them all.

All of Grady's videos are worth the money. Compared to what it would cost to take lessons or learn the hard way by playing experts, these tapes are a bargain. He covers a wide variety of situations and shows some interesting shots that can be game breakers- I like his bank shot where the cueball jumps over some balls for shape. Maybe we can get him to write a comprehensive one pocket book; the prices for the Eddie Robin books are getting ridiculous and it would be nice for one of the true legends to pass on what he knows.

I don't know much about his videos, but I once had him do a clinic in Ocean
City, MD at the poolroom where I was the house man. His clinic was
excellent, and showed many things that were of value. My guess is his tapes
are darn good or higher.

Some friends of mine had a tape of Grady playing a one pocket match. I forget who it was he was playing, but we would watch it over and over. You can learn a ton by just watching him!

Also I wish he would do more comentating! He has my vote for the best one ever! Put him and Buddy doing play by play on 2 drunks at a bar and I would buy it! lol He has so much insite on the game, when he talks about a match you can learn from him.

Grady is a master. I have all of his videos. He is a true inspiration and you should visit him on his website www.poolbilliards.com. He answers your questions and he even will take your phone call. He has always been very kind and generous to me when I have met him at several events. He is a complete package. Tournament champion, Gambler, teacher, entrepeneur etc. He definitely should be in the Hall of Fame. But you should know like all masters he does not take disrespect likely. For example any man of his stature should be able to get a pass to enter any tournament on this planet. But when the BCA told him he had to qualify in a qualifying event you can understand his fury. I was furious too as they told Jack Colavito, Johnny Ervolino and Danny Diliberto, former 14.1 champs they had to suffer through qualifications in order to play in a national tourney. This was while people like Earl Strickland, Vivian Villareal, and a bunch of other non 14.1 players was invited. Yes Grady pisses people off too. Thats why he is no longer on Accustats. But you got to give him his respect. He is a master.

Thanks Youbagua and others for your feedback on Grady Mathews, much appreciated.

I realize that Grady is a one pocket specialist and was/is a world class champion at it. I'm from Vancouver Canada and I've never seen or heard of anyone playing one pocket down here.Does anyone have a link that explains the rules as I'd like to check it out some day? Down here the main game is Nine ball and we have lots of 8 ball leagues. The odd time I can get in a game of straight pool, however all of our nightly tourneys are nine ball.

I figured that maybe Grady's videos on Banking and Kicking and The finer Points of Pool, The money game, Diamond system etc.etc. could be of help to people no matter what they play.Do you think some (or most) of the stuff on his videos will help with my 8 +9 ball games, or are they basically just OK for the one pocket player?

Youbagua (or anyone else), if you could recommend some specific videos of Grady's out of your selection pertaining to my situation would be much appreciated. Thanks, RJ
