Olympics?
Probably Not. While the article is interesting,it does explain why the approach, pool and cue sports in general have taken, has failed to push for admission. When you play a waiting game,...you wait.
That is how the IOC operates, from a high pedestal, looking down. However, they acknowledge the one thing necessary to grow the Games. Money? No. They have plenty of that.
You must adhere to a set of rules that would influence the very core of the sport you participate in. The IOC, NOC(National Olympic Committees) and Federations, dictate exactly what qualifies any sport and/or athlete to participate. From Doping to Declarations of Non-Violence, every stone is turned to facilitate a sort of Olympic Integrity. Almost like a Religion.
Pool isn't ready to play that way, pure and simple.
I see where Ian Anderson of Australia was interviewed. This is 2012 and he says 2024,Maybe? I remember being in a meeting with Ian,John Lewis, Horst Vondenhoff,Thomas Overbeck, and Jurgen Sandman in Reno in 1993. The discussion was centered on the WCBS-WPA submitting for the Olympics. There is a ton of work in the process and these fine gentlemen worked arduously to foster that mission. That was 16 years ago, and here we are looking at another 12 years to go for a maybe?
While I admire the many people over the years who have labored in this endeavor, I am afraid it is a futile one. The Olympics are the carrot that will be out of reach of the pool enthusiast for years to come.
The IOC will determine when, where, and how that Pool and Cue Disciplines will enter the Olympics. Infrastructure is the key for when they look in that direction. Just My Humble Opinion.
