Great match rempe and morris

I watched that a couple days ago. Great match. Damn was Rodney young.

Just when I think I've seen just about every pool video on Youtube that I want to see, up jumps one like this one.

Rempe is one of my all-time favorites!

Rempe always gets rock solid in his stance - he has great mechanics all the way through the stroke- nothing fancy, just rock solid from years of just playing pool correctly. Rodney has a very fluid flow- through stroke, and his approach is more relaxed, with his observed intensity seemingly reserved for the vital seconds of the actual execution itself.


Pockets on these tables look so much larger than the pro cut Diamonds of today. I personally think that the robotic approach to the stroke that you see today is almost a requirement to be consistent on today's pro cut table set up. One reason that I agree with the OP that pool looks too robotic today- Not too many fast and loose guys anymore :(

Jim is one of my favorites for all of these reasons. I think he's also one of the most technically correct players too when it comes to patterns and strategy.

Also, I believe Rodney was playing with his Gus Szamboti here, as was Kim Davenport on the next table. In a few frames, both Rodney and Kim are in the shot with both cues. I'm guessing that's the one and only time two Szams have been in the shot for any Accu-Stats video - perhaps any match footage elsewhere?

Yes, I know that Rodney had a Barry Szamboti cue at one time bc he showed it to me in NYC- I think it was a Hoppe style with no bumper on the end.
 
Yes- he is a gifted one for sure and I thought of him as I wrote my piece. He moves faster, but his stroke does follow the European mechanical style to some extent.
 
pure mechanics are necessary in today's competition and on the tighter tables. you won't see another ismael paez style player make a dent in the game today, it just doesn't hold up

Agree 1000% - For this reason I like going to a room with Diamond pro cut 9 footers on some regular basis, even though it is a hike for me, because it forces me to tighten everything up to a standard that loose tables do not demand. Sadly though, it is a four table room and, at least in the daytime, I am usually the only person in there. Unless you are hardcore, the tables just chase away those looking to just have some fun- no fun for most to miss 90% of their shots.
