Greenies

I also recieved a greenie that I didn't expect, but my biggest concern is I don't know how to return the favor. So maybe you guys can help. How do you give away this hard earned greenie "ie... respect"?

Thanks

If you see a post you like (or dislike), click on the 'justice' icon in the upper right area of the post (the 'scales of justice' as represented by the balance type of scale icon). You can then choose good or bad rep and type in a comment.

Recently, I got some rep because I sent a guy some free chalk. He must have just found a random (or my most recent) post and simply gave me rep on that post - even though it didn't have anything to do with the chalk. Nice gesture on his part, and there's a nice tip for people.

I have a few questions about the rep system myself. Is there a document that explains how it works?

Greenies are just like cash.
When you get enough points you can take them down to the redemption center and pick up a new toaster.

All I get is a fricken toaster with my 1,897,879,315 points!? I would have thought I would at least get a used Manzino or something of that nature.

When you receive greenies, is it customary to return the gesture? Or is it only to reward good posts or good deeds, etc?

Perpetual Cycle

I was under the impression that it would be common courtesy to “return the favor” if someone gave me some green. However, if you go back to page 1 and read Double D’s response to my post you will see that he brings up a very valid point. The fact is you start a perpetual cycle of giving each other greenies. So IMHO it would be in the best interest of the forum if you would save your greenies for the posts that you actually feel deserve them. With that, when you receive greenies you will know that others agree with your point of view, and not because they owed you one because you gave them one.

More Greenies

have been given for bad reasons, than valid reasons on here, so their value in the system has been compromised. You shouldn't get greenies for telling a joke, and because you gave someone some green, it should only be because of a good pool related post, or in otherwords, when you make a good contribution to the forum.

Did you put the stamps in the book like you were supposed to?
I remember back in the 50's going to the S&H Green Stamp center with my mom, who passed away at 95 last year.
Definitely fond memories, and thanks Jeff for bringing out some tears thinking about those days.

We also had 'Blue Chip Stamps'. Seemed like we had stamps all over the place. Well, a bottom drawer was full of stamps. Every once in a while they'd get pasted into the books and off to the redemption store we'd go.

Should you red-rep a person who green-reps you for a bad reason? :grinning-moose:

I disagree with the bolded part. If someone makes me actually laugh out loud, instead of just a fake "lol", they get a greenie.

It's a fun little feature, not to be taken too seriously.

Wow, 30 posts and 6mos on the board and you figured out exactly why the rep system is broken.

If you 'repay the favor', you get a group of people who come on and give each other rep for giving each other rep, which leads to giving each other more rep.

Of course, with a smallish group of longtime posters, a bunch of them were invariable going to eventually max out--because nobody uses red rep much.

As far as this topic goes, I like it for the same reason KC does--nice to see it, nice to know you impacted someone enough for them to point it out and doesn't clog up good topics with postings like, 'LOL' or 'Good point!'

Replying to a post with 'LOL' is the same as saying 'I have NOTHING to add, but I want you all to know I am still here!' The rep comments are easy and good ways to do that in private.

dld

No worries DLD if I sent you 1 you earned it LOL.... And if I didn't I think I may owe you because I was out of bullets =P
