I am in the process of opening a Pool Hall in Greensboro, NC and I am considering including a snooker table. I have two questions:

Would we get sufficient interest?

Should we go with 10' or 12'?

Not sure what kind of interest you would get, even here in Canada snooker is only popular in areas where a strong concentration of British and Asian players exists or there is a some tradition, eg Toronto or Montreal. You might consider putting snooker rails on a 4 1/2 x 9 to get a sense how your customers like the tighter pockets. Once you take possession of a 6x12 you might find it difficult to re-sell.

wheres ur pool room gonna be? i play in gboro when i get a chance.

as for snooker, ive never gotten to play it but of course seen it on tv/internet. I would play there just to try it.......i imagine alot of players would.

We don't have a firm location yet, but we are trying for the rt40 Wnedover area.

You could set up 9 foot pool table marked for snooker to introduce your players to to game - the snooker version of a barbox.

If they like it and want greater challenge you can swap out for a real snooker table. If they don't, you aren't out money. Seems to me from what I've read on this board that Americans have a pathological loathing of snooker:D

Hi! My name is Eric Ridge and I'm one of the owners of Shooters on High Point Rd in GSO.

If you end up getting a snooker table or two, I'd definitely come play from time to time! The only decent snooker tables around (that I know of) are at New York Billiards in Raleigh. I go there about once per month just to play snooker. Beyond me, I'm not sure who else you'd have play on them regularly.

And that's the reason we haven't bought one for Shooters. Nice snooker tables (esp. 12'x6') are extremely expensive and our guess is that a snooker table would take close to 2 years to pay for itself.

I'm not sure where you're opening, what type of crowd you're hoping to draw, or what other amenities you'll have, but my bet is that the snooker table isn't going to get a lot of play. And if it does, it'll be gamblers playing 6-ball ring games w/ pool balls.

Another thing to consider with a full size snooker table is the amount of space you'll need for one. You need about 7' around the table(think really long bridge). That's almost the space necessary for 2.5 9' tables.

Anyways, good luck with your new room and keep us updated with details as you get closer to opening!

Hello Don,
There are probably very few people in Greensboro that play snooker. I have a hard time finding anyone to play with me, and I'll go to Nappy's and NY Billiards when I do find someone. Personally I would like to play more often, so if your willing to take the risk then I would surmise that more players would be exposed to snooker and probably play. Ten foot is not as intimidating as the twelve foot tables especially for players that are just learning.

Coooool!

I play in Gboro alot too, and would LOVE to try snooker. I've played nearly every game you can think of except snooker.

a good friend of mine in lansing michigan had a 12 foot in his room it got played qiute a bit they are big and room would be a consideration i dont think you would lose on the deal
