Game Time Billiards & Sports Bar in South Carolina Closes Their Doors.

On Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 Game Time closed its doors for business for the last time. Game Time formally known as Sporty's and GameTime/Riptide owned by former road player Jimmy Hodges was a massive facility with 30,000 square feet of space in Greenville, SC. It housed 18 billiard tables, 3 bars a full restaurant, patio deck and volleyball courts and was home to many pool tournaments from professional to league play.

The owner, Jimmy Hodges was very sad in reporting the news. He sated "We just couldn't afford to stay open any longer." Game Time was know for its excellent tournament tables and nightclub atmosphere. At times you had to stand in line just to get in the door because they were usually filled to capacity. Hodges cited several reasons for the closing, he stated "For many years their yearly revenue exceeded 2.5 million but with the weakened economy, higher expenses and the smoking ban in his region which stated (no smoking on the property) shrank the yearly revenues to under $700,000 which is less than operating expenses and forced him to close his doors."

Hodges additionally stated that he was verry sorry to have to notify all the tours and leagues that all events scheduled at Game Time Billiards will not take place.

Game Time Billiards and Sports Bar will be missed by all. Myself and all the Viking Tour members always enjoyed the events at Jimmy's place. We all wish him the best of luck in the future.

The Viking Tour events scheduled for July 12-13, 2008 at Game Time are cancelled.

This is sad news. I live in South Carolina and I played in a couple of tournaments at Gametime and I thought it was one of the nicest places I ever played at. Maybe Jimmy can open a smaller room and make a go of it in the current economy and hopefully the smoking ban won't be a stopper for him.

Jimmy had a descent room in Mauldin SC before he opened Gametime and he had some good tournaments at that room.

Sorry to hear this Mj. Jimmy Hodges has been a great promoter of pool in Upstate SC for many years. His former pool room, Cue Time in Mauldin hosted many great events and champions.

For some reason, I don't think that this is the last we will see of Jimmy Hodges owning a poolroom. I wish him nothing but luck in his future endeavors.

This news sucks. Gametime was a great place to party and enjoy good pool. I went to about 10 tournaments there over the years going back to the Red Willis days and I think I got laid at the club every single time.

My thoughts exactly. I'm with Templeton....I'm sure we'll see Hodges again. That place was HUGE...its hard to run a business if your not sure if its a poolroom or nightclub. Kind of like the old Kramer & Eugene's in Concord....or Mother's if you showed up after dark on the weekend. I think poolrooms do better if you cater to poolplayers.:)
p.s./ I still miss Fountain Inn...there are no more like him!

I believe they were hosting one of the Qualifiers for the Amateur Championships... any ideas where that might be at now?

Really disappointing. Nicest place I've played in since I moved to SC. For any and all who are interested, Sammy Jones is working on opening a new room in Greenville. He was supposed to meet with the party owning the building for the proposed room again last week. They are negotiating the rent. That's all the details I have at the moment.

Cool....maybe Sammy will name it "Jumpy's".:D

RIP to one of the best pool rooms in the southeast-Matt p.s. vette- if only there would have been someone else involved one of those times:D

I was told that Shannon is also opening a new room in the Greenville area.

Sorry to hear that.It was a very good place to hang out,hit few balls and hit on few pretty gals.I stored my photo ID and I will keep it as a momento.

That sucks....it was a great place to hang out and the place was packed quite a bit. As a poolroom it was OK but if you were over 5' 3" the tables came up a little short.

I took my ol' lady over there with me once (mistake) and she said she didn't want me to go back. The place was jumpin with hot little numbers shaking and showin' off. I was trying to keep count of the nipples and lost count..LOL. An added bonus was that the Platinum Club was right around the corner.:)

I wish Jimmy the best and hope he comes out OK on the deal. I'm sure he will land on his feet.

Did you hear this from Shannon himself? I was at the Palace last weekend and heard nothing about it.

If this was in the works I'm sure Ktown would be "in the know".;)

Yeah....they are looking for locations near Taylors.

Before he moved to South Carolina, Jimmy had a great room in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I believe Cue Time is still in business. He had some major tournaments there including the first major (maybe the only one) that Chris MacDonald won.

Does Don still have his room near there?

He sold it. I've been told that it's gone down hill big time since the new owner took over. I haven't been there myself, though.

The Golden Cue? No, but I think he's involved in Shannon's new venture.
Yeah you are correct. HE and Shannon and Mikey are looking at trying to do something.

BTW- RK...who are you? PM me.
