Got a chance to pick up a Grizzly 12x37 lathe for a good price ,will it get the job done?

Several makers have that lathe . Tapering would be tough though.
But, all other work, it will do .

Yup. And can't find new belt drive 12 by 36 these days. Convert one to VFD and 5-c collet chuck, you got a workhorse .

The one I'm looking at is 12x37 not 12x36 can I taper a 30 inch butt or shaft with this with proper set up? thanks

You can but you will likely have to remove the chuck .

I have a 12x37 Enco that is probably almost identical. I can taper 30" no problem, even with a large 3 jaw chuck.
