Grrr... rant time

This past Saturday afternoon, I take my cue into a local shop (not going to name them just yet) to get the leather wrap re-applied. The wrap had started coming off in a BIG way a few months ago, and I had taken it to this same shop to have it re-applied then - and it was fine for a while, but then air bubbles started showing up. I played with it that way for a while still - it wasn't a big deal - but this weekend is a big Valley team tournament in our area, and next week I fly home for a few days and will be taking a 3-day pool clinic while I'm there - so I figured, I want to get that wrap set properly for both events.

While removing the wrap, the guys at this shop *tear* it. It's ruined. They have to order in a new piece.

Now it's Thursday - the day before the team tournament starts - and the new piece still hasn't arrived. They offered to slap another piece on for the time being, which I may end up having to do just to get my cue back for tomorrow.

To their credit, the guy at the shop *did* call me this morning, about the time the shop opened, to tell me this and present options. But still... grrrr.

I'm supposed to call back there later this afternoon to see if the new wrap piece arrived today or not, and let them know what route I wanna go.

Sounds like they're trying to fix it, I think you did well not to name them publicly for the whole world to read.

Go with the flow my friend. Do Not Let It Ruin Your Tournament. Getting upset doesn't help anything. See what the guy can do and thank him. You get more flies with honey than vinager. Be a good sport about the whole thing. I find that when things arn't going my way, something better happens anyway. Keep that spirit on the positive side and I bet you do fine at the tournament and pool clinic.
Best of Luck To You!!!

Accidents happen. Removing a wrap isn't the easiest job. You didn't ask a specific question, but I have two ideas. One, do whatever you need to get your cue back before the tournament. Two, and most importantly, don't tell your teammates about it. They've got enough to worry about and team pool is tough.

Just my $.02. :)

Yah, I know. It's annoying, I'm not mega-PO'd about it. Just frustrated.

My teammates already know my cue's in the shop - I had to borrow one of theirs for league play on Monday :)

I'm going to hit up a pal on my other team, who also has a Schon, to see if I can't borrow his butt-end for the weekend, should my cue remain unavailable. I figure, a Schon's a Schon for the most part. Once I've got a cue in my hands and can warm up with it, I'll be ok. Heck, I ended up going 47 points in Valley on Monday with someone else's cue. Har.

And I imagine I'll see YOU there this weekend, too. :P

ScottW: A three day pool clinic, please tell me more...randyg

If you had them fix it once and then had problems again...I'd be very leery of their service. Maybe just sending to a superior leather installer like JWPetree would be a better & final cure. ;)

Another local player recommended yet ANOTHER local player/cue mechanic as someone who does great work with leather wraps. I'd have tried him out this time, but schedules were tight and I couldn't count on a) reaching this guy and b) him being able to get the work done in time. *shrug* Next time though, we'll see.

I made it pretty clear that the reason I was bringing the cue in for wrap work was because I'd brought it in BEFORE and they didn't do the best job the first go around. I'm hoping they'll hunker down and do better this time. Plus, since it's the second go around with them, they're covering the cost.

What division is your team playing in? Are you going to play us?

We're in the C's. So no, won't be playing you guys.

And seems like I'd heard folks refer to Robert both ways. *shrug* :D
