Great Memorial Service for Dave Piona

Today, I was honored to be at Dave's memorial service! Star, Dave's daughter did a great job giving a message and putting together a great slide show of about 75 photos of Dave with his family, church freinds and his pool friends. Christina & Star were surrounded by many friends who really care, and the church itself was packed and I believe there were about 125 pool players there or more along with another 175 made up of church friends and family.

We were all in tears and I personally got to see (2) things happen this week to tell me that Dave's timing to meet his Lord was definitely in the Lord's hands and these short (2) stories are a witness to God's hand moving in Dave's and our lifes and the stories go like this .....

Today, as I was driving to the memorial service which is about (1) hour from my home as I was coming up on the exit on the freeway to the church Dave attended, in the slow lane was a red pickup truck. As I was looking inside the truck's bed sure enough right in front of me was a full size slate pool table laying on its side in the bed of the truck. I said to Robbi as I was exiting the freeway WOW can you believe that! What a blessing to see a pool table right in front of me and I am going to Dave's service and what are the chances of seeing that and I notice also all the cloth had been removed from the table. For 44 years I have driven down the freeway and have never seen a pool table laying on its side or a pool table in one piece. I have seen juke boxes and video games but no pool tables.

As I exited the freeway I started thinking what does that mean? As I started thinking it all came to me, guess what, there are NO boneyards or dump sites where you find slate pool tables and rails on the ground, pool tables are all usually Resurrected !! They are normally refurbished and brought back into use. As for the table's cloth missing, as we stand in front of God Almighty in Revelations in the Bible it says that when we receive our resurrected bodies the Lord himself is going to give us some new clothing, in Revelations that clothing is called new "raiment." So from there, I could invision the table and Dave being brought back to life and recovered and I am sure Dave would have wanted to be the first person to hit a ball on the new table.

So what are the ODDS?? of going to a friend's memorial service with the impact Dave had on pool and seeing a pool table pass right in from of you as your are going to see Dave's family and his pool friends here in the Bay Area?? How about maybe (1) in a billion or greater? To continue with the next story which also took place just (3) days ago I will start another page ..... and it is just a dramatic!

Three days ago my Mom calls me up who is 87 years old and says what are you doing? At the time I was brousing the Internet looking at comments of friends who knew Dave Piona which were writing about Dave, so I answered my Mom I am on the computor right now, reading, not saying anything about what I was reading.

So then the first thing that comes out of her mouth is this, "Do you know someone by the name of Dave and she spelled out his last name, P,i,o,n,a" and I said yes Mom where did you get that name from? And she answered me "I was digging through my kitchen drawers and I found this (3) page article of you and Dave so I am calling you to see if you want me to give it to you." Apparently, in 1999 I must have mailed to my Mom an article of Dave & I playing in a pool tournament at "Chalkers" in Emeryville, CA and Dave won the tournament and I took 2nd only because Dave had taken out the best players there and I did not have to play some of them.

Just think, for 8 years this article sits in my Mom's kitchen drawers and the same week we loose Dave my Mom finds this article of Dave not knowing anything of Dave going to meet the Lord this past week.

What are the ODDS of both of these (2) things happening in (1) week that the Lord allowed me to witness?? All I can say is the Lord is in control and he is For Real and if there is anyone out there that needs to know more please drop me an e-mail anytime at RonatLighthouse@aol.com and I would be glad to share the same Lord Dave knew.

We will miss you Dave until we see you again and may the peace of the almighty cover over Dave's family at this time and we will all celebrate in seeing Dave again, and the BEST is yet to come!

Ron & Robbi

Thank you for sharing. It is true, the Lord works in mysterious ways! Those are amazing stories. Can you tell me some of the friends who attended the memorial?

A great photo of Dave having fun. And NOBODY ever had more fun than Dave! Every day, all the time, Dave was laughing, joking and generally kidding around with all around him. What a breath of fresh air he was. And what a loss for all who knew him.

R.I.P. my friend. I can see Dave now, looking at all his friends gathered together, most of them pool players. He would say "Don't just stand around with your thumbs up your ass, someone make a game!" And then he would sweat it and make side bets with the Angels.

I'm sorry that I was unable to attend the Memorial, but I do hope they all adjourned to the nearest poolroom and played afterwards. There should definitely be a memorial tourney in Dave's name held in the Bay area. Delbert!!! I'll be glad to come up and help out.

Linda, there was over 125 pool players in attendance alone at Dave's memorial service and I don't think I would like to make a list for everyone there was important to Dave as well as to me and I certainly would not want to leave anyone out.

Dave has touched many people in his life with his smile, his hand shake and his concern for others. Everyone who came to the memorial service was touched by Dave and even those who were unable to attend that knew him.

He was a great encourager and mentor. Like others have said also, he was full of energy. I am sure many of us have felt the loss of Dave but Dave was a strong believer in the Lord and without a doubt Dave was ready to walk before us to meet the Lord of creation.

The Lord has given us all friends for a reason and we should value each one of them and hopefully we can all pick up where Dave left off and be there for each other! For we truely have a good example in Dave to follow which will be hard if ever to match. Of all the billions of people in this world there are only a small chosen few that we will ever know, and Dave was certainly an impact in our lifes as we came to know him as a friend.

Thanks Dave, for all the good moments!

Wonderful picture and wonderful remembrances of a great friend; I would give you more rep if I could. Christina gave me a list off the top of her head and truly appreciated the great turnout at the memorial to celebrate Dave's life and all the love and support she has received in her time of grief.

:) Ron I was there too. I have been friends with Dave since about 1962. I haven't seen you since room with a cue in dublin in about 2000. Dave and I worked together , lived together and were lifelong friends. I'm trying to get in contact with Mike Zimmerman from the old days in Walnut Creek. Maybe he will see this and let me know his Email. I am going home now to hit a few on the gold crown dave found for me a few years ago....Mike

Mike, "rackmsukr," is Linda Carter (2) articles above yours is dating Mike Zimmerman. I would send her a "private message" on this site and she could give you Zimmerman's e-mail address. Dave & Mike Zimmerman were very close friends over the years.

Linda & Mike Zimmerman's photo are on the front page of "The Break" a billiard newspaper you can pick up one at the "Broker Rack" in Emeryville, also on-line you will see Mike & Linda on the front page of www.Otbntv.com, there photo is in the lower right hand corner.
