Guaranteed Added Money & Your Feelings on It

i go a step further.

The word guaranteed is not needed.

"$1000 added"

means "$1,000 guaranteed added."

further, "$1,000 added (based on 64 players)"

is not enough information.

A person reading the flyer should know exactly how much will be in the prize fund for any number of entries. This language is incomplete.

The word is needed. Thats the purpose of the word to distinct whether something is 'etched in stone' or not.

So whats the criteria that the promoter is to use to predetermine the prize fund for any # of entries? Its always at his/her descretion. Whatever they feel like adding.

And if you do give an example, how many people are using/praticing it????

1. The argument about having to win or place in the top 3 just to break even due to the reduced added money is a moot point. The reason its moot is because this is true of any tournament a player has to travel to via plane and obtain room accommodations.

2. The "guaranteed added" argument is not worth talking about. We all know what to expect when a promotor uses the word "guaranteed".... Nothing. Even though there are one's like mark who use it properly, the vast majority of the promoters use the word incorrectly. Therefore, whenever you see that word on a flyer, simply ignore it.

I might be inclined to agree with you to just dismiss it. It seems most (not all) 'backpedal' when its convenient. Not getting my hopes up anymore...lol!

If a promoter doesn't have the integrity to do what he says he's going to do, I don't see how requiring him to say "guaranteed" is going to change that.

If you changed the standard marriage vow to "till death do us part, guaranteed," would that lower the divorce rate?

I think players should demand that promoters say what they mean and mean what they say.

Our weekly Sunday handicapped 8-ball tournament is $20 entry (includes $5 green fee) and $100 added.

If two people show up, the payout pot is $130. How could we possibly make it anything else?

True that! I agree that just putting the word 'guarantee' in your promo title doesnt mean he is going to add the money. But he or she must remember: This your reputation on the line. You might be able to do it once and get away with it. But be sure next time you do it, dont be disappointed by the super low to zero turnout.

By your words, it seems that your in that position and try to hold to your word. Thats what we need in the pool world: More people thinking like this. Thinking about the player first.

Love of the game first!!!
