guess the cuemaker

Is there a slight bevel on the inner ring of the joint?

An xray might confirm something if the front end is joined to the wrap wooden handle piece with a furniture screw, big ugly screw up and down with a smooth space about 1/4th inch in the middle

Most Balabushkas had this

Send it to Dennis Glenn,he still buys them and his confirmation
means more to me than all the rest put together

i don't think Craig was making cues in the early 70s,that leaves Billy,Danny,Timmy,Gus and George to choose from.Maybe Ernie, oops

I had thought about Joss, as the cue is consistent their early stuff. But still lean toward Peterson. If it is indeed a Balabushka, it's the first I have seen with birds eye front & long butt sleeve. Either one of those traits are something unseen in his cues, so for the cue to have both makes it a far out possibility for me. I'm certainly no expert but I pay close attention to details & nothing about that cue seems Bushka to me except the thick silver rings.

i considered it was a joss but i remember all of the old joss' tend to have stitch rings.

i dont think the buttsleeve on this cue is long. it is consistent with what balabushkas tend to look like and thats how i came to my determination. there are 2 pics that he took at an angle which really does make the buttsleeve look longer. but the very last pic in the 2nd post is more indicative of what it actually looks like. and that buttsleeve with that buttcap screams balabushka to me.

Looked about 1/2-3/4" too long to me. His sleeves are usually around 1.5x the length of the butt cap. Here's some good info:http://www.classiccues.com/cues/balabushka_2.html

You cannot use the base of the points as an indicator. Although you like to see minimum gap as a collector, it cannot be a deciding factor. I heard George liked Gus prongs so much he could have made them out of balsa and they would have been ok. So a Bushka with a Gus prong with birdseye is not unlikely.

As far as this and a Petersen being worth the same, the reality is in this style cue the CP is not in the same ball park as a the Bushka. A Szam blank Bushka in a plain player like this should be in the 9k range. Where a titlist would be in the 7k range. Shaft diameter, straightness, all being factored in of course. But people will like what they like and hey, people should buy what they like.

This is a great looking cue and I would like to know the prong colors "cleaned". This almost looks like it could be a black, blue, red, white blank. I don't think Gus made that prong prior to 1976. (Maybe Bob Meucci made it :) ) Or maybe Gus made a batch in late 75 to see what they would look like and George got one???? Which would make this a late Bushka.

Eric, thanks for the link to our Bushka page.
