Gun case as a travel case for cues

I've seen a few that could protect the cue well but gun cases draw unwanted attention.

I found luggage from the G Loomis fishing rod company was best. Instead of fly rods, the tubes built into my bags hold cues.

I have traveled with a pelican case before that had cues in it and I had to open it to verify there was no gun inside. Then I had to stick "no firearm" stickers on the outside of the case. It was of course searched again below the airport. I agree with the statement that they draw unwanted attention. There are many other types of cases that will suit you needs I am sure. Chris.

After flying recently and having a bag searched, I got the idea of checking my cue case and packing the firearm that I Carry in it. You can pack a firearm in luggage as long as you declare it, it locks, and it is legal to posses at your destination.

So the next time I fly, I will put my handgun which I am licensed to Carry, in my cue case, go to the proper line at luggage, and tell them that I need to check my "gun case" (which happens to have some cues in it). They will have me open it and inspect it, and then watch me lock it. It will then be marked inspected, and not opened again except by me. That way my cues are not handled by someone else and my firearm is going anyway.

Has anyone tried using a gun case for travelling?

Namely like a big rifle case that you then put your actual case inside of and then check as luggage on a plane

Would a case like this hold a 3x6 or 2x4

I had a gun case like the one in the picture. I don't think it would have held my Instroke 3x5 case. My case was 5" thick and this one is only 4.5". I had the deepest one I could find for a rifle with a night vision scope and it just barely fit. I imagine it would hold a 2x4 case OK. I like the idea of 4" or 6 " PVC sewer pipe that someone mentioned in an earlier thread. Put some end caps on and a strap and you're in business. A whole lot lighter than a gun case too.

The drawing of attention with a gun case which has been mentioned would be another problem.

I LOL'ed when I saw the thread title because this is how our own intrepid Easy E travels.

1 Pelican M-4 Carbine case courtesy of Uncle Sugar, remove all the padding, insert clothes and put cue case on top. Good to go.

I think you might get some serious unwanted attention carrying a large capped off pipe into an airport...

good idea

You could paint it red and have a length of rope hanging out one end.
