Actually, not all of what you wrote is accurate. Suffice to say that CCP laws differ greatly from state to state. While perhaps what you wrote is the case in your state, it is not the case across the board in Connecticut nor in New York. As to the temporary lapse in permission to carry in National Parks, according to the most recent NRA newsletter, that injustice will be rectified before memorial day.


Mike, is it turning into a thread about guns or a thread about personal protection, preparedness, refusing to become a victim & rights granted to all eligible Americans under the 2nd Amendment?


All one needs to do is look to the 3 tragic shootings that have occurred in the last week or so to realize that if a licensed firearm owner was present & carrying, it's a good bet there would've been far less loss of life. Just remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. -Z-

I'm not advocting that. From the way you're responding I'd bet that you're not a holder of a CCP. If you were, you'd have a deeper understanding of what I'm saying, and for that matter what I am NOT saying. And now my good man, I'll redirect you: As an aside, your avatar is awesome.

Joey, I applaud your contemplation. A firearm isn't for everyone. There's no shame in a person deciding it's not for them. Problems tend to come from those who don't struggle in making that decision (regardless of the outcome). For me it was a soul searching decision. Shortly after getting my Concealed Carry Permit in Connecticut, I am now always armed. I took serious training and have read a lot on the subject. I also practice at the local range regularly (which not surprisingly has helped my pool game & maybe even vice-versa). As you so correctly pointed out, things are getting worse, not better. For me, I refuse to be a victim. In the above situation, 5:1 odds are very difficult to overcome. I can't say what I'd do in that situation, but responsible firearms owners learn the mind is in deed the most powerful weapon, firearms are only tools. I own a gun (.357 magnum with hollowpoints) but i dont have a ccp, when someone runs up in my house im ready for them

you and joeyA are probley right maybe i should get a ccp as well (a smaller gun of course!)

you just never think these things will ever happen to you or loved ones.

When I met my husband 15 years ago, I was not a gun lover. I actually didnt want to even see them,but I respected the fact he had a right to have a gun for protection. Well, over the years,(especially the last 7 or so years) his responsible behavior with his babies and the feeling I have of being safe have convinced me owning a gun is a right we all have in this country. I have my own now, and have been to the shooting range with him. (I am almost as good as he is now )
So to make long story short, HELL YES!!!!! , If I had to shoot someone to protect my life, I wouldnt give it a second thought!!!!!!

I know for me and my observation of the licensed handgun owners I know, there is not the sense of bravado one might expect with owning a gun. Just the opposite. Being a licensed firearm owner & carrier brings with it a very large social & personal responsibility. All those I know personally take it extremely seriously. For me, I approach it with a strong sense of obligation and humility (not to be confused with timidity). I think that comes from the mandatory training as well as my pursuit of further knowledge & information. There's an on line community much like this one that warmly welcomes the new comers & the curious alike. http://concealedcarryforum.com While they have a few folks there who are a little too extreme for my tastes, all are good fellows (and gals too) who bring a nice sense of fellowship to being a firearm owner. Florida is a concealed carry state

Odds are that there were some guns in the pool room before the thieves came in the door. The thieves weren't hurting anyone and anyone else that had a gun didn't get stupid.

I carried for years running a 24 hour wrecker service and auto salvage among other businesses. I handled over 95% of my after hours calls myself including some interesting ones to put it mildly. In all of that time the .357 under my left arm never came out. However there were a handful of times when the .357 let me keep negotiating when the apparent disparity of force would have forced me to start the show for my own safety.

If I had a lesser weapon at hand I would have used it. I came within a hairsbreadth of killing a man with the heavy steel hook on the end of a chain that is on every wrecker for attaching cars to the wrecker. In fact, that is why I started carrying. Much safer for me and other people too.
