Gus Szamboti cues picture thread...

This is prettier than a 50K BB. Please don't ever refinish it.
Never ever! I agree! 🤩

I don’t believe in refinishing historical cues. I think refinishing most old cues is a mistake/

Flat face Gus, don’t see these often.

I always say: Preserve where possible, repair, restore, or refinish where necessary.

If it is playable, then it is hard to convince me anything needs to be done other than maybe clean it.

Worn? War wounds? Battle scars? I love it! (y)

Pristine closet queens are nice, but getting them to look that way by sanding away the work of a master just does not make sense.

Here is the same design cue with a more colorful veneer palate. Gus, like George, knew a good design.

Rare find, as I think most of Gus's were piloted joints, even with ivory. Nice cue!

All the best,
WW
I have 2 flat face, the other is a bit newer and has a big pin in it. The cue in the pic above is very old. I’d guess 1975 at the latest. Has not been refinished. Laser straight and plays very nice. I’ve owned this cue since 08 or 09 I’d guess. It’s a very rare Gus for sure, was lucky to come across it.

This is one of Gus's color combinations that I think stands out. Black/Red/Black/White. This cue has a stitched trim ring over the butt cap and the Bushka ring at the joint. This cue was played, not abused and I remember it as a very playing cue.

Mine has the same veneer color combination, I read in an old thread that Gus was fond of this combination.

This was a great cue that came out of nowhere a few years ago... They are still out there... in closets and under beds...
Maybe in some graves for those that might get buried with them. :)
