It’s time for the Gus of the month pic again.
This months cue is one of my favorites. It ticks all the boxes and has fiddle back maple which isn’t very common for Gus.

Sadly I never spoke to Gus. He was a great guy. I’ve heard so much about him over the years. He sure built amazing cues.

Gus Szamboti.. first cuemaker I ever met in person. Of course being 13-14 years old, I hadn't a clue. I just knew he was considered the best. Almost everyone I met while traveling with my uncle had one. Of course when the rooms you go to are frequented by Hopkins, Mizerak, Martin, etc.. you are going to see the best. If you didn't have a Szam, you wanted one. I saw one get sold.. for a cool grand in 1983. They were $ 400 from him if that, and if he took your order. So, the premium prices were being paid way before TCOM and the pool boom. My uncle never waited more than 6 months, and Gus used to laugh and say George, you are never giving up your first cue. My uncles second cue is with a guy who was considered a very good player here in NJ, the third he sent to AZ to a guy named Eddie Brown and he never saw the cue or money again.
