I’ve hit balls with a cue exactly like this Gus. I’m curious if there was more than one like it. The lore I heard was that there were only three 8P4V Gus cues.

I had the opportunities to hit balls with a few cues from Gus in the early-mid ‘80’s. I had a chance to buy one in ‘86 and was highly tempted, but had to be more responsible because I was moving to a state that was much more expensive and I needed to buy a place to live.
I finally fulfilled that desire in 2006 with this Gus. It was made in Gus’ last 3 years, veneers are black, mahogany, purple, natural. The butt and top two shafts were made by Gus. The bottom two shafts were made by Barry. Barry rewrapped the cue. 59.5" / 20.2 oz. It was my main player for almost 7 years. Great experience being able to own one of those cues.
The only problem with the cue was that I couldn’t take it anywhere outside of my local pool room in CT and work was taking me away from there. As simple as that cue was, it drew attention nearly every time I took it out to play. People who knew nothing about custom cues noticed it. Eventually, I sold the Gus, but still own and play with Barry’s shafts. I’ve seen the guy who bought the cue a couple of times at SBE. His first words each time were, “You can‘t have it back.”
