Hall of Fame Criteria

What does it take for a player to become a hall of famer? I am shocked that Johnny Archer and Earl Strickland are not in the hall of fame. I'm not gonna mention any names, but there are a couple of people who deserve to be in the hall of fame much less than Archer and Strickland. Is there an age requirement or something? And who votes for it? I think the pool playing public should vote people in, not some group of idiots who probably can't play a lick.

Per previous threads on this subject, the crietria for HOF appear to be:

1) through either competititve excellence or meritoiroius service to the game, leave a lasting mark on the game of pool or billiards.
2) not have a hisotry of political ill-will with the BCA

Archer is a shoo-in to get in one of these days. Stirckland and Hopkins, it has often been suggested on this forum, are probably on the outside looking in because of #2 above.

I'm pretty sure you had to win a Major Championship.

Then theirs the question of the Road Players HOF.......

Seems like #1 is not applied and #2 rules over everything. What a joke the BCA is, I hope everyone boycotts them.

If you want to discuss such a debate, I think it would be rather appropriate that you do give us names and tell us exactly who you think should be behind Archer and Strickland in the HOF. At least we can make solid comparisons. Otherwise, there are no grounds for your debate.

I'm with JSP. Let's have some facts, please.

Just what are the qualifications to enter the HOF?

What's your grudge with the BCA?

There was an age requirement after Sigel & Balukas got in, but then they back off from it since (LJJ is now in).

The current criteria on the BCA HOF page says that a player has to have been in professional competition now for over 20 years. Johnny Archer is on the edge, as he jumped into the main professional scene in 1988/89.

IMO, it is an absolute travesty that both Earl Strickland and Allen Hopkins aren't in. Those two above many others are why many professionals have become professionals.

I love LJJ, Ewa, and Robin, as those three certainly deserve to be in. They defined women's pool. But if they're in, Strickland and Hopkins must be in.

I'm with Fred on this one.

Any Hall of Fame meant to enshrine the best players in pocket pool that doesn't induct the likes of Strickland is just wrong. What does a player have to accomplish that Earl hasn't already?

  Didn't I read somewhere that Strickland TURNED DOWN (or at least indicated he would) induction into the HOF?

The BCA also frowns on gambling, so any persons with an open history of it would not be considered.

Rudolf Wanderone, Larry Johnson, Rempe, Hall, Sigel... They all gambled. Some more than others.

Terry,

You can request to have your name removed from the ballot, if that's what you're referring to about Earl.

There are just so many times a name can be on the ballot and if you aren't elected into the HOF, you can't be on the ballot anymore. Allen Hopkins asked to be removed from the ballot last year, IIRC.

Right Barbara,

I'm just wondering why some on this thread are bashing the BCA? Is the BCA supposed to force the award on somebody that for whatever reason doesn't want it? Maybe Strickland and Hopkins prefer the award being presented posthumously or maybe they feel they're undeserving (modesty.....???Strickland??).

Terry

EDIT: Nevermind, now I understand!
