Hard satin finish & extensions

Hi cuemakers.

First question. Been thinking about ordering a cue with a satin finish. But the satin finishes on cues i've seen usually aren't very durable. I guess it's because the finishes used typically are for prime coats or are just oil rubs.

Is there a way to do hard satin finishes that last?

Second question. I eventually like to have a matching set of playing and jump-break made. To save the trouble of having to carry an extension in the cue case, I want to use the lower-butt section of the jumpbreak as the extension. Is it possible to make a cue with a uni-loc female section in the butt underneath the bumper? Have not seen this done on any cue yet. What's the implication of putting the uni-loc in the buttsleeve?

thanks

Depending on the type of finish, a "flattener" can be added to create the satin effect.

Satin finish should be just as durable as high gloss.

To achieve a satin finish with automotive clear coat just wet sand north and south with 600 only and don't buff out all the way.

Pretty easy.

One thing to keep in mind is if you are finishing where you grip the cue it will get glossy from your hands polishing the finish. Just look at the shaft of your player. Contrary to what you may think a satin finish can be made a glossy one just by polishing it. Just food for thought.

Amen.

You still have to wet sand and buff any finish to a desired result.

Epoxy coat or auto clear wet sanded with 1000 grit then fine steel wool will have a satin finish.

Semi gloss and satin finishes are softer when cured. Best to spray with regular gloss finish until last coat, then use satin or semi gloss.

Has anyone tried a product like this in the grip area of a wrapless cue? Might be the balls.
