I was at the tournament yesterday for a short while. I was really not impressed with the turnout. I think the T.D. announced that there were only 67 players in the field! 10 years ago a tournament like this ( 10K added with only $100 entry would have drawn about 200 players) and for the most part just the local west coast players were there with the exception of a few from other areas. I was pretty disappointed, I don't know what anyone else thinks about it.

Considering, I am impressed

Lets look at this realistically before you give an opinion that is negative.

Labor day weekend
Reno open next week
Started on a Friday
Big 64 man tournament in Florida going on with some players probably coming to Reno after that one for the $20000 added that can't do 3 tournaments.
Las Vegas BCA just ended

Also take note that last weekends Reno warmup at California Billiard in
Mt. View only drew 72, they usually get over 100.

So 67 is not all "that" bad.

I agree with you bigdog, but I don't think it's anything that Hardtimes has done or not done. I think they're providing a great tournament. They do have a very strong field even if there aren't over 100 players. Jose Parica, John Schmidt, Mike Davis, Sonny Sambajon, and many more, that aint a bad field if you ask me.

Yeah, I really wasn't blaming Hard Times. I am just shocked at that turnout. I guess I was just used to the old tournaments in Bellflower when guys like Buddy Hall, Nick Varner, Efren, etc. would be guaranteed to show up. I was disappointed to not see any of the players from other areas here.
I really enjoy seeing the players that I play with in the local tournaments get in there with guys like that and see it things turn out.
