World Tournament in Egypt with George Ashby

Wow. Thank you.

I have one of the cues he made.

I would love to find a pic of him at the table shooting.

Two times World Champ and a great teacher from what I know. I'll let those who knew him speak up and say more if they wish. I didn't know him, I just have one of the cues he made.

World Champ or National Champ? I do not see him on any WC lists,

Here's one of him shooting in Dec 1980:

One of him w/ George Ashby in Dec 1980 (I think they both went to the world tourney representing the USA). George finished 1st, Harry 2nd (officially this was for 1981):

Here's Harry's write up from that same National championship in Dec 1980. I believe this was the last year where the players had to earn their way into the Nationals by competing in sectionals, regionals, etc. thus allowing for a program of the participants:

It's pretty cool that Ashby & Simms flipped 1st and 2nd 2 consecutive years.

Story I heard was one of those years was a tie. Geo was declared US Champion but at the World Harry was announced as Champion. Different equation over there vs here.

Maybe only rumor. Wish there were charts somewhere.

Ask and you shall receive :)

Both w/same record, but even though Harry beat George, George had the better average and more points which were the first two things looked at for the tie breaker. Personally, I believe head to head should be the first tiebreaker but that was not the case in this 1981 tourney or the 1993 tourney I played in where I finished 5th with the same record as Mazin Shooni where I beat Mazin in the finals (head to head) but he had the better average, etc so he finished 4th. It's just the way it is.
