Has Alex accomplished more than Efren at his age?

Yo Matt, where you hanging out now? You still go to Eddie's? We need to match up again when you get the chance, ok?

"You got the 8 for life"!!!

I still go to Eddie's but usually once on Saturday now. I played good in a ring game a few weeks ago, won every round....but got into a few bad games with Woodbridge and lost about four sets. Ok, they weren't bad games, I just played really bad. I was real frustrated about that, but I'll get my second wind.

We did have a fun match. I played ok that night, but was stupid to jack up that last set. I ran out of steam, and you got a second wind...LOL. It was fun though. Now I probably need the call 7 and maybe the breaks...yeah..definitely the 7 and the breaks.

Jay were you there at Hard Times Bellflower when Efren played Sigel in 3 disciplines. One pocket, 9 ball, and Banks. Sigel threw in the towel after being totally dominated by Bata. It is documented on tape and it happened in the 90's.

Efren would be the yardstick against which every great pool player would be measured. He has the imagination, the charisma, AND the experience that makes him the best there is at what he does. That said, Alex is still young and has accomplished much even at such a young age. If he plays his cards right, he might get to the same level when he's Efren's age.

I remember Efren won all three. None were particularly close either. When it came to the Banks, they didn't have to play (but did anyway) since Efren had won two out of three already. I don't think Sigel liked playing at Hard Times. He never played in any of the big tourneys we put on there in the late 80's and early 90's. And we tried to get him out here several times. I called and offered him the Moon, but he turned me down.

I think we guaranteed Sigel $2,000 plus expenses just for showing up and playing. The "Winner" of the Challenge got $4,000. It was right before the Bicycle tourney so it fit into Mike's schedule. On another day in another place, Mike might have won. He played all three games jam up. But he looked like he was going thru the motions at Hard Times.

Those tournaments at Hard Times were amazing back then. I think I was spoiled by those tournaments you guys put on back then, because now when they have tournaments I am not even interested, not nearly the caliber of competion you would get for all the tournaments on the old west coast swing back in those days!

Efren didn't start winning big tourney's till his 30's and lost alot to Sigel

Alex has pretty much won everything by the same age that Efren was getting started

what say you?

FWIW, Efren, in a recent interview, mentioned that there are a lot of great young players out there and a lot of them are constantly beating him already. However, he specifically mentioned Marlon Manalo, Dennis Orcullo, and Alex Pagulayan as probably the ones most likely to surpass what he's achieved so far.
