I'm looking for any feedback on Talisman WB Layered Tips. I've been playing with Moori's, I was thinking about trying a Talisman out. Any info. would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Biz

I ordered some from Tony a while back...put them on both of my James White shafts and I am a believer. I left triangle tips after 20+ years of use for Talisman. I dont like the hard tips or any make but the these Talisman are the nutz.

Good luck,

Very good tip holds chalk well, no mushrooming, lasts long, half price of moori. Have someone with a lathe install. I had trouble with delamination when I installed on my own no lathe.

I've played with the WB (medium) by talisman and i've also played with Morri's (medium and slow). Personally I like the morri better. The WB doesn't hit like the morri, to me the WB feels softer. The Talisman Pro feels a lot like a morri, at least to me it does.

Have been using the WB Hard for about 3-4 years, have them on 4 Schon shafts and have installed about a dozen on other cues, all for customers who like hard tips, and they are delighted with them. These are the best in hard tips, IMO - hold chalk well and last forever with no mushrooming or need to groom. I break with my playing cue, and have had my present tip on over a year with plenty of tip left.

I have used Moori Q's and definently prefer the Talisman WB Hard. Have never had any delam problems with either lathe or hand installs. Tony has very good installation info in the FAQ section on his website.

I was thinking about trying Talisman tips because I hear they are good but I also hear a lot of people say that talismans are known to delaminate. Ive done searchs on these forums and billiards digest and it is always mentioned that they delaminate. Ive spoken to tony and he said if installed right then they wont delaminate. Cool thing about Tony is I hear if you have a problem with a tip he will send you another one free, that says something. I have moori meds on my Omen and I like them but I am curious about talismans. Only problem is trying to find someone to install them for me

I have been using Talisman tips (M) for several years and have never had one delaminate. I actually prefer them over the Moori tip. I had Moori Medium tips installed on my latest cue and they were over the edge of the ferrule after a couple of weeks of play. That has never happened to a Talisman. It is all in what you like.

I recently switched from Talisman WB mediums to Talisman PRO mediums.

Re the WB mediums... I really liked the way that they played and the fact that they retained their shape so well. The ONLY downside to them was how fast they wore. It seemed like I was having to replace one every 6 weeks!!... and that is just too often in my book. I felt like I was constantly imposing on my cuemaker to replace yet another tip for me. And not wanting to do that too often, I compromised my game and shot for a while with my second shaft, a Matrix, which, although also pie-shape segment-laminated, is not my regular 314.

Re the PRO mediums... Although there was a week or two of adjustment when I first changed, I now like the hit of PRO mediums. Right off, I could tell that the PRO mediums were definitely harder than the WB mediums... and I should mention that every once in a while I'll miscue with the PRO medium... but only when I get really sloppy on a finesse draw shot.

Thus far, the PRO medium is wearing MUCH better than the WB mediums did... and that was the principal reason why I changed.

I haven't shot with a Moori so I can't offer any comparisons to Talisman WB mediums for you.

Bottom-line: Try the WB medium. See how you like the hit/playability... and see how well it wears for your style of game.

OR... if you like a harder/firmer hit, try the PRO medium.

Like all laminated tips... don't TipPik it... and don't get it wet... or else it WILL de-laminate.

Thanks for everyones input so far I think i'm gonna give it a try I can always cut it off and put a moori back on.

One thing I did learn is about the Tip Pik i was told that's the only thing you are suppose to use. If not that what do you use to rough it up?

Tony's website suggests initial gentle scuffing and reshapng be done with sandpaper or a Willards dome-type scuffer and that after the tip has been "played in" for a couple of hours, you LEAVE IT ALONE. I would concur -I don't do anything to my tips except chalk lightly and they hold chalk just fine.
Tips that have been chalked improperly (too much pressure and/or "twirling" into the chalk) and are badly glazed can be refreshed by ROLLING across a tip-tapper to impart a little knurling effect, but I wouldn't use a Tip-pick on any layered tip. JMHO - HTH
