Has anybody seen this logo before?

Don't be modest chopdoc... You know that this forum would be absolutely nothing without you! You respond with the absolute best information on every single post. Honestly, don't know what we do without you. Yes... I consider you EXPERT!

Cue on the left-
Probably a Phillippi,
cue on the right Dan Janes Joss
Really? Phillipe? I don't mind if it is. But the guy told me that him and his brother got them on the same day from his father back in like 1979. He was certain that they were both Joss sticks. But his brother cracked the butt plate on his and had it refinished. So it doesn't have a logo. But he said they were bought together and was pretty certain they were both Joss.

I only paid $450 each. So I know I'm not going to lose money. Whatever brand it is, whether Felipe or Joss is fine with me. Somebody else on here said the other one was Bill Stroud model "Jest". But I'm not expert. Looking for information. Really and appreciate your ideas.

LOL!

Copy.
Paste.
Repeat.
So when I bought these sticks I swear that I saw the "JOSS" block letter logo. I fell in love. And he said both were purchased on the same day together.

Went straight to the bar to test them out... Had a few drinks... Got home... And noticed that the logo now said "JOE" And not "JOSS" (but with the same lettering as I expected the logo to be).... So I thought I made a mistake...

And then I looked again this morning... AND THE OTHER SIDE HAS THE JOSS LOGO! I'M A FUCKING DRUNK IDIOT LAST NIGHT. LOL

When these cues were made, Dan Janes and Bill Stroud were still together.
How long were they together? The guy I purchased them from said that he got them in about 1979 or 1980. Him and his brother were kids. So it was right after they moved into their new house is all he could remember.

How much difference does it make if it was made by Danny Janes or Bill Stroud? Any difference at all? What years did they make sticks together?

I have several newer Joss sticks. But nothing this old. So I'm not as expert on the history as you guys are.

I don't think I have a pot of gold here. They are very plain Jane. But I felt pretty confident that it was worth $900 for the two of them.

Beer goggles make any woman beautiful and any cue a Joss.

Pick up a cheap cue and start drinking. If you take it to the limit, it might even be a Gus or GB. In the morning? Could be anything.

This isn’t making sense to me. The “other cue” has a black ring between the delrin and the butt sleeve and that cue is stained darker. This picture must come from the other side of the cue with the name JOE inscribed. When Joss engraved personal names they did it on the opposite side of where they inscribed the JOSS name. Do you have the cues in hand?
Sorry about that. Was drunk last night when I posted the pictures. Maybe these help?

Both sticks have a small hex bolt holding the bumper on. Don't know if it's original or not? I don't know how they used to make these in the olden days.

I'm just on the surface. People with deeper knowledge and experience than me around here. But thanks. It's nice to be appreciated.

I'd like to possibly buy the JOSS with the JOE etching. $900 was a great buy for both.
Might be for sale in the near future. Primarily just looking for information right now. $900 for the pair I knew was a good deal. Now it's just time to get information. Couldn't pass it up. Certainly didn't want anybody else to buy them for that price. Lol

Well, you've always been extremely helpful to me every single time I post. And I don't even post very often at all.

So I can only imagine how much you do for the rest of the community. You are a complete and true affect to this forum. Hope you live forever! We can't lose you!

I've bought the coolest cues in the pool room! Having money ready to buy always comes in handy.

I deleted that post…wrong decade…I still play with a ‘68 Joss….Stroud was on his own early ‘70s.

Just got an email back from Steve Janes. He said absolutely recognizes those sticks. They were not made in the same year. The one is at least 1978 or 1979. The other one that you guys say was probably made by Bill Stroud. Is absolutely before 1975. So even though they were bought on the same day for two brothers. They were not made in 1979/1980.

And he says he'll recreate the logo on the one that's missing. He said he'll do it for free. But I'm going to send him some money anyway if he does it.. Would that hurt the value if Steve recreates the logo on the one that's missing? Or should I leave it as is?

Definitely get Stephen to do that logo. Period. Do it.

IMHO.

Thanks. Didn't want to ruin it or make it sketchy. Appreciate your advice. And I will have him send me a letter of authenticity just in case somebody says the logo looks wrong.
Yup. LOA is good too. Nice find on these cues.

For some reason when I drink I don't find cues. Maybe I should drink more?
