Has anyone ever heard of Barioni Cues?

I also would like to hear about this cue maker. Looks like he is somewhat local to me. Is corking a shaft legal? Has anyone played with a corked shaft before?

He claims to have the least deflecting shafts and the best hitting cues ever made. Here's his youtube channel. Tell me what you guys think

I've not heard of him. But he seems to have some interesting ideas, like:

* Butt that is the same diameter throughout
* Tapered forearm to quickly bring the diameter up to that of the butt, where it levels off
* Flared nub at the butt cap, reminiscent of Sailor's cues (nice to see touches/features of old brought back)
* Corked shaft (i.e. "pith" or center is cork)
* Wood ferrule (his claim that he's the first to come out with it is arguable, though)
* Aiming line on ferrule (much like the first iron sight on a rifle)

Video details of these features here:

Interesting ideas.

P.S. to "jimmy91988" -- you wouldn't happen to *be* Mr. Barioni himself, would you?

Mr. Barioni lives not too far from me right here in nor cal. i ran into him and his lady down at breaktime billiards. i hit with a few of his cues and was really impressed by how well they play. imo they're stiffer than an ob shaft with the same deflection characteristics

the guy had some really impressive woods in his cues. i'm not sure if the butt taper was my flavor of tea but his cues did seem to hit the ball well. they put crazy spin on the ball too.

Barioni Cues: A little more information please.

That's it?
No more information on Barioni Cues????

I saw the video and it is interesting. Would love to hit some balls with a Baroni cue/shaft....

How many AZBers own a Barioni Cue?

How many top players use a Barioni Cue? (don't have to be a super pro)

Even: How long has Barioni Cues been around?

There isn't a whole lot of information about the cues/shafts. I have to suppose that breaking with his cues/shafts is not a good idea. I don't break with my OB2 shaft either so that wouldn't matter to me but I'm kind of curious as to how they play and hold up. Since I play with a zebra ferrule  already I'm used to different ferrule designs and don't even notice it.

20 or 30 years ago, I saw players mark their cues with a marking pen using the thin dark line to mark the white ferrule of yesteryear. This will mean that you will need to do a lot of tip shaping; at least that's what I have to imagine, since the "laser line" is always on the top when you are shooting. Maybe some others could offer their opinions. Back then, a blue diamond tip or a LePro didn't cost much money and many players put their own tips on. With the new layered tips, shooting a cue/shaft in the same position all of the time could mean a little more tip work and more expense.

All that being said, I would love to hear from those of you who have tried the cue/shaft. Thanks for the minimal posts so far on the Barioni cues/shafts.

i know the guy personally. if you want to meet him pm him. he goes to diamond billiards in modesto enough that you might run into him if you just stop by on a wednesday.

is corking a shaft legal? who would make it illegal? really, who do you play with that's going to inspect your shaft to see if it meets some crazy rule criteria. it's a real similar technique to what predator and ob1 do.

i've tried his cues before. the fit and finish look good and they're extremely LD. if you like ob1's or predators you'll dig his stuff.

Whew, my eyes are blurry. Thanks for the reference. Lots of information and lots of reading.

Still would love to hit with some of his cues. Maybe if I come out to one of the Swanee tournaments, someone there might have one of Barioni's cues.

Now I have to go hit some balls.

that's pretty far south.

Yeah, no sh*t! I doubled over in pain. :D

hahahahaha.. I'm glad I hit your funny bone.

FTR, I do know how far away the Swanee tournament is from Northern California. I just figured that I might have a better chance of seeing one of Barioni's cues if I got a little closer than looking around here in th swamps. lol

Oh yeah, go see a chiropractor about that pain. It shouldn't be happening over a good laugh. :grin-square:

Joey:

Oh no, you're "glad you hit my funny bone" when poolplayer2093 said that you were pretty far south when you "hit some balls"? (Well gosh, if that's not an overloaded statement, I don't know what is! :D ).

No chiropractor needed, unless [hopefully she -- the chiropractor] is going to mess with my "funny bone". :D Sucker punches there would indeed double me over in pain. :o

Wait, wasn't this thread supposed to be about Barioni cues, or some such? :D

Yes, "corking" is legal. The rules (WPA) do not require or prohibit the use of any particular material(s) in the construction of a shaft (other than the tip).

I haven't read the Barioni material recently, but I did a number of months ago. I seem to recall that "corking" the shaft is just the term he uses for drilling/boring out some of the wood and filling it with some other material, which isn't actually cork.

he's a good guy and real enthusiastic about what he does. everyone on here jumped on the "F this guy" band wagon before he had a chance. he's a nice guy that makes a good cue. almost nobody here but me knows that because key members told him to kick rocks and everyone else jumped on the band wagon

i'll talk to him about doing an az cuemaker build off or maybe a tester cue to send to a few people.
