Landon was 18 at that time and just totally destroyed "the pearl". Landon played him like a violin and Earl was a total ass. Throwing around four letter words, stomping around, calling him lucky, etc. etc. If I were there watching my son take that kind of abuse, I'm not sure I could have taken it. How has the pool world come to accept this kind of demeanor from a premium player? If he were a golfer, the announcers would have said it was inexcusable. I think with Earl, everyone just states; "well, that's just Earl" and the world puts up with it.
 
True. But then again, it reminds me of a true story about golfer Tommy Bolt, only because I knew the gentlemen who witnessed it.

Tommy hit a bad shot, and two elderly women applauded, and said great shot! Tommy said, you would know a f****ng great shot if you saw it!

Later that day a tournament official came up to Tommy with the two women. He said, Tommy, you are being fined twenty dollars for profane language.

Tommy handled the official sixty dollars. Then, he looked at the two women, and said, f*** you, and f*** you!!!

Inexcusable? Yes. Does it go on in every sport? Draw your own conclusions...

Yeah, but I can show you a couple places where it won't happen without you ending up going toe to toe. :wink:

You pull that in the wrong place and you will eat your cue.

Of course...He probably never plays in such places. :wink:

I will watch that when I have time, but why does the pool world put up with that? He's become the Bobby Fisher of the pool scene. With the last match with SVB he donned Safety googles, ear protection, white tape everywhere, weight belts, weight straps, etc. which is his prerogative, but bad mouthing his opponents is not. Especially an 18 year old that is cleaning his clock. That made that stomping so sweet.
Bubba Watson came on tour doing that crap but his caddy threatened to quit, and his fellow players let him know that that kind of action would not be tolerated. If someone hasn't re arranged Earl, the pearl's nose by now, I'm really surprised. I'll bet he's had a few invites to go out back by his fellow players.

Yes, I've heard those stories too, but that was back in the day when golf professionals had to come in the club house in the back entrance with the food deliveries. Total drunks and deadbeats.

People put up with it because there is no pro pool scene anymore. You honestly think if Strickland did that stuff in the snooker world he would be allowed to compete in those major events? Hell no.

There are some who say Earl is sick, IMHO it would not help. I would not like it if anyone was bad mouthing my kid but smacking him would be a poor decision.

It sounds like Landon handled it in a way that left a mark.

I didn't hear about any significant misbehavior on Earl's part in his recent match up with Shane. Yes, he is very eccentric in terms of all the equipment and contraptions he uses, but apparently he can still play great if he was able to beat Shane.

On his best behavior with SVB last weekend. Guess he likes SVB or knows Shane can't hear him.

Yes! During the NBA playoffs there have been several cases this year where players have got out of line. One told a heckling fan he would **** him up. Another player took a running start at another player smacking into him and the ref! So far Draymond Green hasn't kicked anyone in the nuts yet but I am sure it is coming!! :yikes:


Earl has his moments that is for sure. I feel bad for him.
 
For all the tough guys that want to punch out Earl, show us just how tough you are by asking Dennis Hatch to go outside, or better yet, use some profanity on him in a pool room and poke him a little with your fist..................Ah...just as I thought. You're a lot like Jeremy Jones.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I read somewhere, that Earl is a black belt karate man.
Might not be a good idea to start any violence with someone like that. (although he can certainly be an infuriating "mouth" at an event and can stretch someone's patience)
They're trained to walk away from actual fights, but if someone tries a punch, then they can wreck someone's life.
One side kick to an aggressor's knee and the aggressor won't walk for 6 months. A kick to the face and things end up horrible....years for recovery.
There won't be any 'fair fighting' once one of them goes into action on the street or in a bar.
Best to just leave him alone. SVB kind of giggles at him.

The first time they played on a 10 footer in Ohio years ago Earl was in prime form in terms of misbehavior- especially at the beginning of the match- so though he may respect Shane, he has misbehaved when playing him in the past

"Fair fighting" is for the boxing ring, in the real world people get hurt.

It reminds me of a story. When I was much younger I worked in a pool hall with a number of old "salty dogs" for customers, like retired sailors, factory workers, truck drivers, etc. One night, a young roughneck was spoiling for a fight and tried to goad one of the older guys out into the parking lot. The older guy wasn't phased a bit. He leaned on the counter, and never looking at the kid, paused as he took a drag off his cigarette. As he exhaled the smoke, he said in a world weary voice "Son, you're looking for a fair fight, but I'm old and I'm just gonna hurt you." The kid thought about it for a second and then just walked away. I'll never forget it because the way he said it sent a shiver down my spine, like I'm not sure the kid would have walked away from the fight.
 
Why violence?
Just have him lose the match by order and be banned from the rest of the tournament / tour by the officials.

No discussion, no nothing. "Mr Strickland, you will now leave the building. Please pack your things immediately."
If that happens a few times maybe he starts adjusting again.

And yes, I don't care if he is bipolar. You cannot abuse people around you, period
I also do NOT understand why everybody (of you) is watching and not doing something. In our society it's thought of as also being guilty....
