Has Anyone Punched Out Earl?

That was Landon's first match on a ten footer. CTE made the table seem less intimidating. His mindset was good because of his alignment skills.

Stan Shuffett

Maybe you meant first tournament on a ten footer rather than first match. Landon beat John Morra in the first round, then played Strickland in the second round.

[Incidentally, to the OP -- this match was played in July, 2012 at the Southern Classic in Tunica, MS. So it was nearly 5 years ago rather than just a couple. Landon's getting old; he'll be 23 in a couple months!]

LOL......I didn't say that Earl has hurt the game more than the "Challenge of Champions fixing scandal".
Matter of fact I never mentioned "Challenge of Champions fixing scandal" before.

Do you mind elaborating kind of wondering what this is.

Like him or hate him, it's just sad that one of USA's best pool players for over the last 40 years is just scratching by making a living. I hope Earl does well in his later years. Maybe someday his celebrity can allow him to live comfortably.

Someone posted recently that Luther Lassiter died broke, that just seems wrong. Something needs to change in pro pool.

As I remember it, McEnroe only got mad at the umpires and line callers, never his fellow competitors. I think Conners (almost as bad?) and the other players would have kicked his ass if he had acted like Earl and screaming at them across the net.

And....his rackets!

Long story short, vegas gave one of the players on the field 20 to 1 odds, and he came out on top after some very fortunate missed shots, the most obvious of which was in the final match (where he likely shouldn't have gotten). You can guess why.

You can watch some of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkMpqzvk-OY

cool looking table, but WTF? chopped off the end of the vid.

How come nobody kicked Michael Jordan's arse, he ONLY went after his opponents. Jordan's trash talk makes Earl look like nun.

Heck, there are baseball pitchers that throw a ball upwards of 100mph at your head, intentionally, and they take less flak than Earl.
They miss a few games, and they are right back at it, and nobody even brings it up again.

I don't remember hearing any of Jordan's trash talk on TV, but I didn't watch his games that much. To me, watching someone annihilate Earl when he's acting like that, makes it that much sweeter. I haven't heard but I'll bet the Shuffetts knew he would act that way if 18 year old Landon could get a lead and they mentally prepared to use it as an advantage and it worked. All Landon said during the meat of the match was: "whatever you want to do, man" and toward the end, he said: "good shot" which set Earl off again.
I want to see a guy sit still in his seat whether winning or losing.

Funny, I never heard Earl's trash talk on TV either ??

What you want and expect, matters not to any pro pool player alive. Just saying.

I watched fans interact with Earl up close and personal for an entire weekend. Even the folks that don't "like" him, wanted his autograph :)

I can't speak for anyone else, but ...

Earl blurting out the "F-word" when he misses isn't necessarily the same as "trash talking" It's not the same as if he's saying "F U" to someone.

Sure, it show a certain lack of class and refinement - but that doesn't mean he's bad mouthing any individual. He just gets disgusted very easily .. then cuts loose with the gutter talk. I can't say much about it because I've done it on occasion. I never did it on TV (or YouTube), and I try not to do it in front of a lady ... but still - smash my finger with a hammer? .... yep - some good old "sailor talk" slips out.

Earl is a troubled genius. In his mind he really believes most of his antics and behaviors are looking out for the best interest of american cue sports. It's ironic someone brought up the Challenge of Champions dump, where Earl was the only player that refused to take part.

A few comments:
I. Jay Helfert did a good job covering that match.
2. An individual contacted me during Earls first match and said, You don't Landon to play Earl! My response was-that's exactly who I want Landon to play because I knew Earl could not get through to Landon and would just shark himself. Landon commented before the match that he would win... no worry.
3. I have a match of Landon when he was 12 winning against Earl at Papa Murphy's in GA. Landon won 7-4 on 9 footers. It was a money match, too. Same comment before they played. I will win!

Stan Shuffett

Before the match started Landon told Earl he was going to beat him?

I've seen a few people with the exact same symptoms as Earl. It didn't take but 1, maybe 2 good solid ass whippins to accomplish something that all the meds & docs on earth couldn't do in a 100 years, (at least in those same bars) !!!

Here's a post of mine from back then (2012), with some of what Earl had to say during his match with Landon: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=3699984&postcount=25

Not the first time this question has been raised. From about five years ago:

#####
A few years back at the old DCC at the Executive West, I was walking up the aisle to the main entrance to the tournament room, about to leave, and stopped and watched Earl playing this big, bald-headed, young biker-looking guy on one of the tables on the aisle. No idea who he was. Anywhos, I stopped to watch because it was a 1pocket match, and there was a crowd, and the players were wrestling over the last few balls, and I could tell Earl was "agitated."

The bald guy finally gets the last couple balls he needs for the match and Earl start channeling Teddy KGB from the poker movie with Matt Damon, "Rounders": Fine. It is a fooking joke anyway. You must feel like a young man, beating me. Must make you feel big and proud..." So on and so forth.

The big bald-headed guy looks at Earl and says something very erudite like, "You're a piece of shee-at, Earl." And Earl, who just can't stop himself, keeps chirping until the big guy makes a move towards Earl, until he is restrained by several pals ringside, one of whom says words to the effect, "Let it go. He's not worth it."

And "Earl the Pearl" lives to fight another day.

Lou Figueroa

That was a buddy of mine(scott lewis) local (north carolina) player who plays all games pretty well, but of course, not nearly earls speed . He just told earl exactly what lou said, called him a piece of shit. All players from the carolinas grew up watching earl and this was a point of pride(even if it was just a race to 3,and at earls worst game,at that time,1 pocket)to get a chance to play earl, let alone beat him. scott was gonna shake earls hand and earl was just chirping because he had been beaten by a short stop from his neck of the woods. BUT , years later at gate city(greensboro nc) earl started mouthing to scott again at a local tourney.scott(who is not a fighter, but will defend himself ,and definitely isn,t gonna let someone run their mouth at him) . Scott told him that he didn,t care if earl was a legend and world champion,he told him to quit running his mouth because he was out of line. Earl didn,t and long story short scott semi choked him out lol.(grabbed earl with both hands around his throat, and tackled him over a table) scott didn,t hit him and earl was just choked purple lol and embarrassed more than hurt.

THAT didn't seem to make an impression. I'm convinced nothing short of killing him would change him. No doubt, He's a man without his meds. Is the man married with kids?

If he is/does - I wouldn't feed them after midnight or get them wet.
