I haven't seen any interesting designs form Schon in at least 5 years. The LTD and ELITE models from 10+ years ago were so much better. I know this is subjective, but what's your opinion?

A lot of their newer desgns are horrible imo. Still built/play ok just look funky as hell.

I currently play with a Schon and have owned a few others in the past. I think it just a matter of finding what looks good to you and plays well.

I have seem some pretty ugly cues (both production and custom) in my time playing pool.

I REALLY don't understand this decline. Most (all in my opinion) of the American cue makers have settled in to boring. Viking used to have MANY different designs and the ability to customize EVERYTHING from color of inserts to joint type to stain and more. Now, they have just as many models but almost all are boring until you get to the very expensive, and even then they are not really appealing to me personally. McDermott, just the same. Schon, obviously no exception.

WHY don't I understand the decline? Because we live in a time when the tools are like mystical wizardry! The computer aided design systems, miraculous CNC machining, and lathing make design UNLLIMITED AND EASY! These also bring cost WAY down because labor is basic and requires much less craftsmanship to produce a really beautiful and highly functional cue.

It seems like a lot of missed opportunity. BTW, all this while prices are going through the roof.

Viking's are horrid looking cues. All that swirly mother-of-pearl shit is disgusting. WAY worse than some of the current Schons.

From what I read from their former great designer , they have not upgraded their software .
The designs now are just modifications of their old designs . They're just editing the old designs .

I haven't seen a Schon in several years. I always thought the ones from 10 years ago and older were ugly as hell. I can't imagine what the new ones look like if you guys say they are worse. To each his own:)

My last Schon was from Evan's era. Haven't had another one since.
And somehow those had the best hit .
Something changed in their assembly or parts .
I've tried two 90's Schon. Those had their hit signature .
They did not hit like steel jointed cue .
Kinda hard to explain .
Heard the 80's with the yellow micarta ferrules were even better .

Many absolutely are awful and it is probably part of what holds them back from being a bigger player in pool today. But they do have some really nice designs and the Vikore shaft is a favorite of mine.

Whenever I see a Viking it always reminds me of the late 70s back at the old T-rail pool room in rural KY. A road player from Mass. came in there with long hair and platform shoes with an Allen Hopkins bridge and stroke and commenced to putting a hurt on us with this strange cue with the name “Viking” in the butt. LOL Man I thought that cue was magic!

Cues play fine but most of them look like crap. I talked to their lead designer recently and he said they are thinking about doing a line of 'throw-back' classic cues. Hope they do.

Are you on the side that says “hit” from one type of joint to another is “identifiable “? (I.e., steel vs non-steel)

IMHO, a cue is made to play with…not look at.

If it plays good, I don’t care what it looks like.

I do think some cues look better than others, but looks do not override “play” when it comes to me selecting a cue.

Just how many designs do people want?

All the new cue designs are getting way too “busy” for me.

I like simple.

Does Schon have a Jackpot tribute?

Evan was the mastermind in the Schon designs. You could see something was different after he left, in their new LTD, Elite, & Unique designs. After he went to Segen you could see that their designs looked like Schon DNA.

Those Schon Petersen tribute cues with the clover leafs are my favorites. :)
