Hate these kind of people...

I played a 4 in league (APA) last night, so me being a 6, I'm not too worried about a 5-3 race. The guy wins the lag and breaks and runs 5 balls before he misses. The table is pretty much wide open at this point, so I go ahead and run mine out to win that game. The next game, I break, make a couple and play a safety, he kicks, misses and gives me ball in hand, I break out one of my balls and play another safety, this time he kicks and makes a good hit and breaks out one of my balls, I run out to win that game. The guy is pretty upset and the next three games he wouldn't even try, he would get up and just hit the ball around the table  WTF!?!?! What is wrong with these kind of people.... Sorry just had to vent...

That is one of the reasons I only play APA 9 ball. When you play lower skill levels in 8 ball they really feel they are done before they ever start. In 9 ball it is the opposite. They really feel that have a chance with only having to get so few balls.

Because

they finally think they are able to make some balls, but you are not giving them a chance to do it, and it makes them mad!!!!

Learning about defense is a HARD LESSON for them.

I was playing on a challenge table the other night for $5 a game with 4-5 players challenging, and invariably, someone comes up and wants to play for free. Well, a real cutie challenged, and said she only had a dollar, and she shoots not bad at all, except for shape. Well, this guy that has a crush on her says he will back her for $5 if I give her the 6 and 8 (the one wasn't used, racked 2-10), which I did.

The layout wasn't good and I played safe on her a couple of times. I feel the audience eyes hoping she would beat me. I had a hard shot on the 7, and didn't end up with a good shot on the 8, low percentage, but decent safety, so I played the safety and left her hooked. I could see the disappointment in her eyes, and feel the letdown of the railbirds, and I ended up winning the game. She was a good sport.

People at the 2-5 skill levels tend to think that defense is cheating since they don't know about it yet. It's all part of the learning process, and some is hard to swallow.

Sometimes 8-ball brings the pain safety wise. Some people can't handle being safetied to death I guess. Still, I'd try to not let grumpy people like that irritate you. Shrug it off, and look forward to your next match...and play even more lock up safes.

don't get pissed. be glad that you haven't met a 2minute per shot opponent yet. It sucks the life outta ya !

Thanks for the input everyone. It's actually kinda funny now that I think about it...their team name was 'Enhance Ur Calm'...... go figure :) LOL. Anyway, about what snapshot said about 2-5 not knowing about defense, it's hilarious when my girlfriend (SL3) gets up there and plays 5's and defenses the crap out of them, I get a kick out of it because I taught her all about the defensive game. :D

I hear ya!! Can't stand those people either :D Then there's those that run around the table at a mile a minute that just crack me up...

Just remember this..."Fast and flashy gets you noticed. Safe gets you paid." I came up with that one, in a similar situation, gambling with a guy that got mad when I had a long cut down the rail on the six. I was giving him the seven and the last two. I played a rail to rail safe, and he freaked out.

The guy is a bad sport, has no fight in him, doesn't deserve to play such a fine game, and should take up something more his speed....like knitting....
LOL, WE really gotta hangout sometime:D

I really think this is addressed in the apa thread previous to this one. A LOT of apa players are just out to have a good time. They just don't care enough about winning or not winning. Playing a decent player in 8 ball just isn't fun for them. I've seen this kind of thing over and over again, and people like this just have NO desire to get better, even if they lose.

Well then....

Then, they should expect to lose.

That is why he will stay a 4.

I agree. Without a safety game and a better attitude, he is going to stay in Foursville a long time. Congratulations on teaching him one of many lessons.

Its despicable that he would do that to his teammates.

It's obvious that he has accepted that he is a loser and is willing to drift thru life giving up at slightest sign of resistance, but to force his teammates to endure his laissez-faire attitude is deplorable. His teammates should have kicked his a$$ to the curb immediately.

BTW, did anyone notice how I used a french term in a sentence that also referenced "giving up at slightest sign of resistance"?

What bugged me most about APA- was a team Captain (an SL4) spending 10 minutes on a timeout, explaining a shot to an SL2 that an SL7 wouldn't attempt to try to make. (of course they miss completely and slop something in anyway (&*%&$ APA slop:rolleyes: )

I always hated playing the low handicaps (below SL3)... not because it was "hard to win, unfair".. etc... it was because (if I played to win) it was no FUN for either of us. I hate dinking in a few balls then playing safe, wait 3 minutes for them to think of something...and miss, play a few more balls (couldn't risk giving up ANY shots in a 75 to 14/19 race)... if the table wasn't cooperating, or you didn't get "perfect".. dink some more around. It's a pretty dull game.
It's different when you don't even have to play a "lock-up safety". Just play something they have a low-percentage of making.

If the player that you played has any willingness to improve his/ her own game, they will try and learn something from other players during their matches. Anyone who isnt willing to learn, will never improve. JMO.

Vinnie, come up and visit....I usually try to play on Sat and Sunday....shoot me a PM....or if you have a place with nice tables and cheap rates, I'll head your direction....

On the point of defense, I gotta be honest.....if you are locked up with a very low percentage 8 banker, defense is a smart move....but, if you've got a reasonable cut shot that an average/good player should make, and you play defense, I'm gonna comment....and it ain't gonna be positive ;)

Not to jump into someones thread but, I hate these kind of people. I play last the other night against the other teams captain who is a 7. As we go to lag the balls, he looks at me and says in a very irritated way" Are you gonna play pussy pool or what?" To which I respond that I am not Karnac the incredible and I plan on shooting the games as I deem necessary and if I need to play safe, I will. He tells me that our team plays nothing but "pussy pool". We played a girl 2, girl 3 and girl 5 who can't even spell safety let alone come up with one without coaching. And our 6 played 2 the whole match he played.(and lost) I looked at their sheet at the end of the night and they marked a grand total of 3 safeties in 5 matches. Unfortunately it never came up for me to play safe. I almost did just to get a rise out of him but I took the high road.

Now, that's right down my alley

Holy Crap. I would have busted into my routine, throwing in "Bet two hundred on the side, Mr. Balls of Steel?" Or.."I won't have to play safe against a player of your caliber." Or..."I didn't know there was that much pussy around. How do you know so much about it? I'm glad you are interested in p@#$Y, I WAS wondering a little about you." Or... "Just play your best and then go have a beer while I play." Etc. Etc. I can't believe you let this guy get away with that one.
