Have a drink or pass?

a beer or 3 doesnt seem to hurt my game, the problem is that a couple of beers is just the start. Then its a couple of more and then some shots of southern comfort and then a couple of more beers. 3 isnt a problem the problem is that it lead to more and those are the ones that affect my game.

Naw

1 Cherry Dr. Pepper doesn't affect me, but after 4 or 5, I start getting 'juiced up' ..... :D

Even when I did drink, I never drank more than 3 mixed drinks when I was planning to play Pool that night, because I play for money, and I like money.

Taking any Substance the alters your State of Mind, Is Harmful to your Mental and Physical State. If It does not Immediately Take Effect on Jugement, It will have longer Lasting Effects down the Road.
Just My Opinion, I just feel the way I do from what I've seen and Have been through. Keep your Head Clear and Your Nose Clean, To see what your Path Holds.

P.S: Nice Sig, Good taste in Quotes you have sir.;)

I drink when I play, why not? I understand that I will never be a pro (nor do I have the desire to be one) and I play for fun now. It never gets over $20 a rack for me. I enjoy drinking while I play since it is mostly a social outing for me:D.

I agree. I always drink when I play. I have a kegerator with a 26 degree keg of Bud about 3 steps from my table. How could I not have a beer if I'm playin? Luckilly most of my competition is drinking as well. I always play for money 5-20 a rack to make it interesting. Pool, drinking, gambling all go good together, and it is my way of relaxing when I am not working. I play pretty good when I'm drunk, as I have a lot of practice. I LOVE beating sober people for money when I'm drunk, I'ts an added bonus!:D

I cant drink when I compete in Euirope, and I am glad. Alcohol makes me loose control and feeling. But when I am done competing I might have a few (or moore) while gambling - usually not that great.

My best pool is played sober.

I've often said, " one guy has Southern Comfort, the other guy don't,
is the same as cheating!".... Are you lurking Connecticut Doorknob ??

Last couple of tourneys I played, I allowed myself one beer per match. Gotta admit it kept the vital systems more relaxed than usual. But for some reason I didn't manage to get enough under my belt to get me drunk.:D

I guess you were joking, and Fields were seldom completely serious but for some it is insane to drink. If you have an addiction etc.

For me it is insane to drink and play for big cash.

I quit drinking a long time ago for reasons totally unrelated to pool. However, as memory serves me anything more than a couple of beers is going to hurt your game, but your optimal game may not be your prime motivation for going out for a night of pool. Of course, some people (active alcoholics) have made alcohol so much a part of their life, that they can't do ANYTHING without it; that's a different category entirely.

I usually don't drink alcohol when I'm playing pool. But that doesn't mean I won't after :D

I play on 2 teams. My main team, I never see any of our players drink during the match. I am the only exception with a very rare beer or 2 maximum during a nights play.

Drinking a beer or two is a pleasure for me, I actually drink a little because I love the taste of beer. If I felt the slightest inkling of a buzz, I will put the beer down and quit. 2 does not get me there.

The other team that I play with, everyone drinks and does so pretty heavy. Even with that team, I stick to my 1 or 2 rule IF I decide to have any.

I do see a difference in the two teams for sure. The drinking team seems to have a bit more fun but they take their pool less serious. I prefer to play hard and no let up. Both teams are great, just have different types of players.

My non drinking team does fare much better in standings and we are also in a much tougher league. Renard is a member of my "sober" team. Great team mate with a strong desire to play the game well.

Sober gets my vote for a more serious, controlled game.

In the past when I have gone to league regionals which are 8:00 am to 10:00 pm 2 day tournaments, those teams which start out the first morning drinking beer seem to disappear by noon the first day.

The teams drinking water tend to make it to the next day.

When playing seriously, I usually will pass on the beer. But if I feel I'm just too tense during, I will indulge in one maybe two. Typically Sam Adams. :)
