What happened to Jon Kucharo?
Was a top player and now seemingly has dropped out of the billiard world.
Does anybody know? Just wondering.
Don,t ever hear of kinky either. what's he been up to?

You mean Ginky not KINKY? lol
Ginky has retired due to bad back and likes playing poker according to BD mag.
I read somewhere The Arrow quit playing too but I'm not sure .
Jon has a marvelous stroke. I'd kill for that stroke.

Typo, I thought it looked funny when I typed it.
Maybe someday this sport will have better sponsorships and more money in it
so that players will stick around.

I could be wrong but from what I hear Kucharo is living in the quad cities in Iowa. He is still playing but just taking time off from the tour.

I just spoke to the Ginkster a couple of days ago, and he is still playing every day, and playing good too. He is just not competing any more. He thinks it is time to focus on other things for a while...

Kucharo had a nice game and a break that some thought was one of the two or three best in men's pro nine ball. As you note, his disappearance is eerie.

As for Ginky, check out the May 2004 issue of Billiards Digest Page 16. There's an article about the retirement of this maginificent player.

Watching Kucharo practice up in the Cue Club for the BCA a few years ago I was really impressed, he had an awesome game and a very solid stroke that made it look like he could not miss. I heard some rumor about Parica spotting him and beating him for the cash and that it got to him, took some of his heart out of the game. I am not sure if it is true but alot of seperate people have mentioned it. Regardless, if I had that kind of skill I would never quit pool and anyone who beat him spotting him dodged a bullet, over the long haul I don't think anyone could spot him in 9-ball and stay ahead from what I saw. The guy had/has mad skills.

IIRC he has opened a small pool hall there and plays some local tourneys.

Is this pic of Kucharo?
I am thinking of someone different if this is Jon Kucharo.

Edit.....I went to the player finder and they had a picture. Man I had the wrong guy in my head for 10 years or so. Thanks for the picture!

Grem How many billiard pics do you have? I might be interested in
a few from you if you dont mind. I am looking for ones to blow up and
put on walls when I open a pool room. Not sure when that will be but I
want to open one.
I will try to attach what I think is a cool picture

Your picture is of John Schmidt, were you thinking he was Kucharo??? (he's a better player than Kucharo - JMO)

I, too, recall that Jose beat Kucharo giving him the seven and out. I didn't, however, know that it was the session that broke Kucharo's competitive spirit. That's sad to hear.

No I knew this one was John S. I just liked the picture.
What happened with my vision of Kucharo was that a few years back
I was in Reno and watching a guy play. I asked a guy next to me who he was and he said Kucharo. I said okay and never heard any differently.
Now I know.
I wonder who the guy is that I thought was Kucharo. He played real well and
I have not seen him again. Oh well

Not sure who is the better player but I have alot of respect for John Schmidt's game. I like that he is an all around player.
