That sucks but glad it all worked out for you!!

I would do a session of league to get my game back up to speed and then tournaments when I feel that my stroke is back. It's no fun to know that you once played better. If you have a bad night in league, your teammates can pick up the slack. But play bad in a tournament... your out and frustrated. Have fun!

It really depends on the level you were at when you quit...

If you were at the higher end of the spectrum you need to get into the pool room and hit enough balls to get the rust off....

If you were a social player or just a few years in you may like to have the social safety net of a team to get comfortable....

Tournaments tend to expose flaws and you will have a bunch of them you may not have had when you quit... Save the tourneys until you are feelings like you are getting back to your old game.....

I'd spend 80 percent of my time practicing and hitting balls alone for the first few months but that's me...

The game is about different things for everyone so try and find what you missed that brought you back....

Yup, getting back in stroke is going to be "fun". Just enjoy playing and play in league and then work your way back to tournament play. Probably going to be frustrating and slow but it will come back. It's like riding a bike as they say.

Or you could just have a baptism through fire and jump right in with the sharks. Either way happy shooting!

Just get to a hall would be best IMHO, I say this because it will help you to remember how enjoyable the game is. If you just hop right into a tourney or league you might not get the true player juices flowing.

I quit for 20 years and got back into it. I play every week now.

At first I just practiced a lot to get back into stroke.

One day while practicing a guy asked if I wanted to hit a few around. To make a long story short, I joined his league team and been playing with them for about 15 years now. I found a hall where most if us that play on the 9 footers know each other on a first name basis. The equipment isn't great, but isn't bad either, but mostly it's the friendly people I met and came to know that got my attention about this particular place.

If you want to play league, find one or actually several in your area. Most are always looking for players, even if that means being an alternate. At least you get to meet a lot of folks. Good luck and I hope it works out as well for you as it did for me (finding a great place to play).

Yes, yes, and yes. Hit the hall first for a couple weeks, find your stroke, find your break, find your feel and shotmaking, find your confidence, play the best players you can anytime you can. Competition is either $$, weekly tourneys, and leagues...you rate yourself about what you want...you can focus on either or all, be your own best critic, be kind to yourself but not soft, be patient, be honest, have fun.

Definitely just hit balls around a bit first. If you were used to playing pretty good you may get pissed if you don't shoot up to your own expectations.

It's a lot worse when you can't play at your old level, in a league or tournament situation.

just went to my old stomping grounds,,, boy was I shocked, I played better than I expected. but the other people have improved soooooo much! at least its gonna be fun tryin to take down the young guns. LOL
