and after 6 or seven days of practice im running 10 ball racks on a ten footer and tight pocket table. im seeing better options and routes, ive basically improved and im shooting like a B+ from a C+. how is this possible? I was never useless on the table, I just only played once a week for maybe three months a year with the occasional tournament, which I won a few with the handicap. but this is weird even for me. maybe im older and wiser?

It's nice to be able to make a ball isn't it?

To answer your question.......your not missing the shots you use to miss and your controlling the cb better than before.

As for wiser....pattern play may gave improved.

Still, B level leaves a LOT of room to improve.

IMO, since your game is on the climb....take advantage of the momentum and put some serious table time in and maybe, just maybe you'll reach A to A+ levels...

I couldn't agree more, my game needs a lot of work, im just kinda pissed at myself for wasting years bc im finally seeing myself actually improve and I honestly thought I was just a shot maker and I reached my potential where as now im having fun even when I miss bc I know what I did wrong.

Maybe you watched videos of pro matches during your absence? I've found a lot of learning there...how to spot patterns, etc.

As Charlie Bryant often said, it costs nothing to pay attention.

Right now you're loose and having fun making balls with no pressure. Here's something to think about:

CIT, SPF, PSR, Parallel English, Backhand English, stun, follow, stop, 30 degree rule, tangent line, contact point, deflection, squirt, cut break, jump, masse, etc..etc..etc

Now keeping some of these terms in mind the next time you play you'll see your game slowly start to go downhill! Welcome back!

Funny you post this. I quit playing for about 17 years. At the time, I was a fairly strong player (one of the strongest in the area, though not necessarily saying a lot).

I bought a table and have been playing again for I guess 6-7 months. Without a doubt, I play better than I did before.

The answer is simple.........you’ve forgotten all your old bad habits and stroke flaws and imperfections.
You approach the game without old muscle memory or stroke instability and so it truly is a fresh start.
As such, you can teach yourself to perform and accomplish what you know differently than in the past.

Hasn’t everyone heard the term fresh start before? This is better because not only is it literally a fresh start
but it is also a fresh new approach. You do not revert to old bad habits immediately. In fact, you likely have
forgotten them and so just avoid recreating those stroke flaws. Just build a new stroke that is dependable.

I watch pro matches all the time. mainly Strickland, reyes, SVB, Shaw, feijen. im weird about watching pros, if I don't like their stroke or pre shot routine I cant watch them. I guess its an OCD thing but for example, Joshua filler, the current world N1, I cant stand the way he walks around and gets down on the shot, I find him hard to watch. im weird. Im currently going through a classic phase and im watching jimmy mataya, Mizerak, Hall, a young Archer before he became painfully slow.

Sir, if you are “running 10 ball racks on a ten foot tight pocket table”, you are already an A player.

lol. not consistently. maybe two racks out of ten and I usually get one postion wrong and either have to bank or a tough cut. I wish though.

I see your point, but Im seeing them and thinking of them much easier. a long break and not being mad at myself for being a shit player might have helped
