Having Aiming Problems on Cuts...

I find that I have problems with my aim point and lining up cut shots. It is very frustrating. Non-cuts, banks, everything else seems to be fine. Cut shots, especially back cuts are KILLING me. I hit them right, I hit them left, NOTHING consistent that I can adjust for.

I have heard about these aiming systems, although I have never had any experience with them. Any pointers, thoughts or guidance on how to get this fixed in my game?

It is VERY frustrating as I said and driving me nuts. I need to get this figured out...

Any advice, links to websites, videos, etc...?

Also, local pool halls have instructors, how do I find what I need in the way of a local instructor that can help me with this?

Brian...I will be in Chicago this weekend. If you are interested, I can help you with your problem. Everything begins with an accurate and repeatable stroke. You can have yours video analysed, and that will help you figure out why you're having problems with your cut shots (among many other things). If you're interested, give me some contact information for you (or give me a call), and we can discuss your needs and my schedule.:D

Ugh.. back-cuts.. hate em almost as much as rail shots. These were my nemesis for quite some time until I took a while to practice them. I found I was over-cutting them most of the time, then all of a sudden I'd under-cut once in a while.

What I found was that I just let my mind make the adjustment after a while of shooting and now I hit them a little more full. In the case of under-cutting them, 9 times out of 10 I was trying to use draw, which just kicked the ball forward much more than I anticipated.

Practice that a little bit and narrow down your window. Make sure that you are consistent with what you are trying so that you'll know what you're doing wrong. I've had to make many adjustments for things I was doing wrong, but now those adjustments feel natural after having used them for a while.

SO, I had the opportunity to have play with Jeff Mohl yesterday, and he had some great input for me. In essence, it isn;t the cut that is the problem. I only miss these on break shots. SO... I am scared of break shots.

Another thread is going on directly related to that topic, and I did FAR better last night as I tried to ignore the rack.

Some great stuff in there!

I would say get someone to help to make sure your stroke is good, then just play, and play,,,,,through it. If the stroke works you just gotta get used to aiming it.

You have to aim with aiming systems also,,,,,so why open that can of worms.

I'm sure the problem is not resolved.....as nothing is resolved in 1 day.

Not knowing your shooting orientation at the table it reminds me of a common trait I see typically among novice players.

Sometimes you hear alot about dominate eye and such and I've even heard of some teaching others that they should be shooting with their dominate eye over the cue stick.

Now I'm of course NOT SAYING that this is what you do...I have no idea how you shoot as I've never seen you play....but this is common, more common than I'd like to see.

FOR EXAMPLE:

#1) When you shoot with your dominate eye over the cue....say your right eye dominate.

A)Cuts to the right will basically not be a problem.

B) Cuts to the left will be an issue.

#2) Example is reverse for left eye dominate and shooting with left eye over cue.

NORMALLY, notice I say normally because I'm sure there are a few freaks of nature that can look at the shot so unnatrally and drill it everytime. But normally this is not what you want to be doing.......its basically shooting cross eyed.....but the kicker is that it has nothing to do with a dominate eye as the issue I've described would be thought to suggest. Remember I said cross-eyed.

If you don't get what I mean just say hey GG WTF are you talking about lmfao......but you got to say it just like that....or Miyagi no answer lol.
