Hey, if you have time on your way back home on Sunday.....the Alger Tavern has a double elimination tourney and I hear a LARGE 9-ball pot

I can't remember for sure but, I think the shooting begins at 6 pm....it used to be at 4 before we started ours at the Village

I sort of wish we lived up in Lisa's territory! There are break pots over $500 on Sat., Sun., AND Mondays at 4 different places!

Back home

Well it's 2:26 AM and I'm home now, still wired from my very very enjoyable weekend.
I went to the nooner in Sedro Woolley but it was cancelled so I ended up racing back down to Lynnwood to watch the big 9 ball tournament at Uncle Jack's. I got there and ran in to Mike Z and Jeff Jimenez who both said there were spots open if I wanted in. Randy the tourney director did not want to let me in but after Jeff convinced him I wasn't a road hustler he let me in. I played really well in the first match against Jim Conway but missed a tough 6 ball that I should have played a leave on. I have to hand it to Jim because he made every bank and only missed one combo. I feel i should have won but who doesn't feel that way when the match is that close? I went to the B side and my brain went to sleep. I lost to a guy I had just smoked two nights before at Daverthumps. Oh well, that's pool. I stayed and watched as long as I could. Mike Zimmerman was shooting like god. Some of the shape he was playing was out of this world. Cigar Dave was there and was enjoying the action too.
I left Lynnwood at 5:45 and met lunchmoney at the Cook Rd exit. We visited for a while and he gave me a bunch of pictures he had taken of all of us at the AZ Shoot we had at KRB Sailing's establishment. I eventually handed them all out to their rightful owners. After my visit I headed to the Overflow in Sedro Woolley. I played like crap my first two matches but survived. My third match was a lot better and I just kept it rolling. F@steddie gave me a push but I survived. I eventually got beat by Yankee Poppa and ended up 4th. We had a ring game of 9 ball after the tournament and I ended up picking up about $25. It was 3 AM when I left to go find a motel.
I got up Sunday morning and went to the Village for my Shrimp Louie. Ken's palce is one of the best around for quality food. I spent an hour or so there before slumming around Bellingham most of the day. I got to The Alger Bar and Grille arounf 4 PM and played a few games with f@steddie before the tourney. I lost my first match to Chuck Hassler on a combination bad roll and brain fart. If I would have hit rail first with a bit more speed I would have still had shape and made the ball. Slow rolling on bar tables is never a smart thing and I know better. That's the aggrivating part. I never slow rolled another ball for the rest of the night. I ended up coming back through the B side and ended up third as I watch Jim Davenport run me right out of the tournament. Oh well, he shot his ass off.
Overall I was happy and had a great time. I plan on doing this again on another long weekend. It's good to know that I can still compete with these seasoned players even though I rarely play any more. I love pool.

It was nice seeing Scott again...and I appreciate him not saying anything about my night playing...lol. It's not that I shot all that bad, just stupid, stupid mistakes. Had a beautiful run in my first game of the night, only to scratch on the 8...argh! Got the next game, and then, should have had the last game of that set, but again, made a critical mistake at the end, giving my opponent the out. I am generally pretty solid shooter...but seem to be having real issues when I get to my outs...really frustrating for me. Anyways...that put me on the B side.

My next set was with, what I would probably deem as my 'arch-enemy' among the female players in town...let's just say, she is not the most well-liked shooter, and has caused some real issues in the womens league. Anyhoo...I played her real solid as well, made some pretty nice cue shots...even tho' the darn b*tch would not quit standing at everyone of my friggin' target pockets!!! No, I am too nice, and yet again, kept my mouth shut...I really need to start standing up for myself in these situations!! Arghh....again. I get on the 8 before her, and...you guessed it...failed to pocket the ball...what else is new? Lol. She gets her next 3 balls, leaving her a cut shot that, in quite a few peoples' opinions could have cut either way, and since I left the 8 sitting along the right rail, very close to the pocket, it really would not have mattered where her leave wound up, as the CB would have come down table sufficiently to get on the 8...well, she sets for the shot, and did not indicate the pocket...and I did not want to say anything while she was aiming, or she would have pitched a b*tch...I kept waiting for her to call the pocket, (in womens league she demands every single friggin' pocket be called audibly)...she never did, and pocketed her ball, leaving her the 8 and out.

I am not sure if I was more po'd at her for her 'sharkin', or at me for letting her get away with this behavior, but I left, pretty much in a snit. Even my snits are subdued, so only a few people knew I was upset. I did mention to the TD about perhaps reminding her that unobvious shots really need to be indicated...but whether or not that happened, I have no idea. At this point, I don't really know if I care anymore. I will be considered a b*tch if I call someone on a foul, or sharkin', or none indicated pockets.....and if I do not say anything, I'll be considered a b*tch if I make mention of it to the TD to watch or warn another player. So it's a 'no-win' situation for me. All I have ever wanted to do was to play my absolute best on any given night, and to have the games played fairly...I keep thinking that we're all adults.....ahhh well, forever the optimist, I guess. It's not even about winning or losing for me...as long as I played well. However, cheating and sharkin' will set me right over the edge, and then it's not fun for me anymore.

Perhaps I am just not suited to this game afterall.

Lisa, you should have asked me about it. One reason I wear a cap is so the brim blocks them out. I have a little game though that I play with idiots who like to do that shit. If I am down on the ball and someone is in my pocket line and they are bothering me, I get back up and walk around to "See it from the other side". This way they have to move while you "look at your shot". If they go right back again, do it again. They will eventually bugger off. It works for me and I never have to say a word.

Scott, I love that tactic and am going to use it! I'm glad you had a good time. Mike did win that tournament. The finals were taped, so maybe they will end up on Youtube.

Lisa, I have been in your position, and I think that if you are in a no-win situation and going to tick someone off, you might as well benefit from it, so by all means, make sure the TD or opponent knows they need to call all shots that aren't obvious.

Also, have you thought about the offer I made you? I don't want to infringe on your territory.

Thanks Scott, I will give that a whirl! Stuff like this has been happening to me mostly the last 6 months or so...oddly enough, right about the time I got my Josey...lol. When I am 'in stroke', I feel like I bring a pretty strong game. When I am in the 'zone'...hell, I even scare myself...LOL!!!

It has also been suggested to me that being thought of as a stone cold b*tch on the table is not necessarily a bad thing...I can always flash a smile once the money ball falls. It's not like I am taking any of my opponents home!

It was fun seeing you on Saturday...please do let me know when you plan to visit our neck o' the woods again!

I saw Chuck tonight and was able to tell him that his cover IS NOW BLOWN and his speed is now known on a nationwide basis, as he has now been published on the internet ...

Funny thing -- I'm a night-owl/day-sleeper -- If I had gotten up in time, I would have been in Alger with Chuck and Barney last Sunday -- DARN!

The American Legion also has the "same" tournament on Saturday nights, as well. Entry fee is US$5 both nights and we play double-elimination, BCA Rules 8-Ball.

I run the 9-Ball Pot on both nights -- $1 gets you 1 ticket and $5 gets you 7 tickets -- max buy-in is limited to $10 -- you do NOT have to have participated in the pot previously to qualify for the full prize awards, but you MUST be playing in the tournament to be able to buy in. I do more than the usual amount of draws you find in other spots, so these pots get hit, to some degree, frequently. Both pots have reached $500 a couple of times before, but this is very seldom. Both pots are currently between $175-200.

As, at varying times, 6 or 7 of us from here in Oak Harbor get out to tournaments all the way from such places as the Shamrock in Bellingham to PC's Pub in Everett and Daverthumps in Lynnwood on different days of the week, we most certainly extend our most heartfelt welcome to you, or ANY OTHER PLAYER, regardless of "speed," to "crash" our tournament.

The tournaments are not very big (we ARE a bit off of the beaten path) -- we usually draw 12-13 on Fri. nights and 10-12 on Sat. nights. But, this is one of the toughest $5 tournaments you will find in the state, as ALL but a couple of players are at least solid B-levels, with a sprinkling of A's and usually 2 BCA-rated Masters!

Tournament play is on 2 Valley 8-footers, using the Saluc/Aramith regulation size magnetic cue ball ("Green Logo"). They are 50-cent tables, so we split quarters for each game. We charge 25-cents for all scratches AND FOULS -- this goes into the "Scratch Pot" as one of the final payouts.

We try to get play underway by 8 PM. We will take as many as want to come. We race to 2 on both sides if there are 16 or less players -- 2 on the winners' side and 1 on the losers if 17-20 players -- and 1 on both sides if more than 20 players -- we go back to a race to 2 in the money rounds, regardless of how many players, although this is sometimes determined by how late it is when we get to the money rounds.

And it seems to run at a bit faster pace, as well. I would definitely recommend checking it out on your next trip down.

It is also pretty easy to find...but then again, the Legion is only about a block from where I used to live. I spent roughly 10 years on 'The Rock'...lol...but was not really allowed to play pool at that time...ex-husband. Seems like a whole lifetime ago...lol.
