heh, Which cue is better out of these two?

hey..

hey they are two Players cues.....the different is only on the stamp (I mean design)...for the rest they are good for the first cue.

definitely spend the extra $100

spend a few more bucks and go for the Joss. The few Players cues Ive seen and shot with had a dead hit and I thought they were cheaply made.

I got a Lucasi for $135 from Neilsen billiards (RRP $250+), and it plays just fine. If you look around you'll find some good deals between $100 and $150, and if you get it from Nielsen you get a discount as well!

Hi, I went through three production cues before buying a custom and luckily through miracles of god was able to get out of them...spend 300 get yourself a nice Andy Gilbert Break Jump, they play excellent and you can always sell it.

why????

I think he post 2 pictures for 2 cues that cost less then 60 $ so I think that this is the range he has to spend for the first cue.For that money this cues are fine.

Personally....

I would play with house cues until I had enough for a custom cue.
Get some holiday/birthday money together.

Tell me what amount you want to spend, and I will tell you what I think. I will also beat ANYONE's price on whatever you buy.

I think he previously posted that his budget was up to $150. In that range, I'd go for a cheap Joss or McDermott or something. If he were to go up to $300-ish, a custom sneaky pete or plain jane is a good choice.

A Players cue is a waste of money IMO.

Save another $40 now and buy a plain Joss. You'll definately get $40 more enjoyment out of it. Another would be a used Huebler, you can find them normally on eBay.

Hi briskx,

The cues you are looking at with a pretty design are all made with stickers placed on the wood underneath the finish. Others are suggesting better performing cues at the same price point but without the sticker fluff. Think of it like a poor sports car fan shopping for his own car:

Option A: A car that doesn't have a lot of performance but is tricked out with nice rims, a big spoiler, and flashy body paint. Average reputation. The average joe will think your car is awesome, but a real enthusiast has no respect for you.

Option B: A car that has top performance and reliability for its price with a design that won't grab anyone's eye. It is built cleanly and solidly and looks polished but won't stick out. The average joe will think you have an average car, but an enthusiast will know you have done well for your budget.

Which kind of buyer are you? If A, all the cues you pointed out fit the bill. If B, go with the suggestions of everyone else.

When's the last time any of you have played with a Player's cue? They really aren't that bad. They even make cues with sharp points and real inlays. For the cost they are fine for someone's first cue and actually shoot pretty well. Sure it would be nice for him to get a custom one day but in the mean time either of those will work just fine.

Let the flaming begin.........

I've hit with one. I didn't like it. It felt dead. Shaft wood wasn't of high quality. The cue was straight and looked OK. I'd say it was suitable for a first cue.

I can't see anything wrong in buying cheap cue as first one. That's not a waste of money since without experience it's very tricky to know what you exactly want from your cue.

Buy a players cue, and you get NO resale value.

Buy the Joss and get 90% resale value.

Pretty easy decision for me.

I agree. If you were to spend that amount (under $100), I'd get a fury - there seems to be an online following for them and you can get 75% back out of it easily.

My first decent cue was a Joss, which I still have to this day. I used it for many-o-years...
