Help buying a beginner cue?

nope the joint is unique but dont worry, you dont need a fancy LD bs shaft. you need a nice, stiff solid maple shaft and practice with it for a few years and embrace its characteristics. duff shafts are very good maple. duffs hit great as a rule. some are incredible hitters. hard to find better maple. find a good one and if its not good enuf for you and you bought it right ill take it off your hands.

Not worried about the quality, just how hard it would be to replace if need be. I wouldn't wanna have to buy a new cue if a shaft broke.

Heres what I think you should do. Find the local billiards stores in town and see what they have on the shelf. If they sell tables they will usually have decent begginner level cues. Hit a few balls with the cue, and give it a good look over to make sure its not warped or something is out of place. If u like it, buy, if u dont like, move onto another store.

so instesd of ignoring my post, you choose to take it personally? LoL
seems that everytime you get advice it will not work due to everything being stacked against you. and you insist on responders objectifying things which are totally subjective. good luck in your search for what someone else considers to be the best cue.

This is gonna be the first cue I've bought. So sorry if I have questions. I do take it personally because I came here so that I could ask questions and get answers, not smartass remarks because I'm amateur. I thought there would be room for people of all skill level here, but I guess I was wrong. But at least a few people are helpful. I don't know what is subjective and what is fact, and I was looking for help to find out what would be a good first purchace, but its ok... I'll just go find out on my own. I don't need people like you criticizing me because I'm not a pro.

Lucasi....I've hit several. Decent cues. Vikings, etc.

ok

smartass? lol

look, notice that everyone has a different reccomendation? thats because most production cues are pretty good and hit ok. youll probably change out a few times as you get more in tune with what you want. sooner you get one the sooner you will get the tenth one lol

That makes sense. I just don't want to overpay for a crappy cue, so I want to get the most information I can before I buy one. I just don't like being treated like a troll when all I'm trying to do is research.

@ measureman:
This is a forum, which last time I checked was made for socializing. So please, if you don't have anything helpful just move on to the next topic instead of treating me like a waste of your precious time. Thank you.

I did not read the whole thread. I have 2 of Jim Baxter's sneaky pete barn find cues. They both hit great. I had him change one to a radial pin and had black rings added to the joint. They both hit great. I use them for playing, breaking, lending out. For the money, I feel they are a bargain and it is about the same as a tank of gas for a truck. Good luck, John

PS I also have a Arnot bocote custom cue and it hits nice to. I paid a lot more for it.

Custom Cue, Under $100

I recently purchased from a cue maker in Florida, Shawn Brady, a sneaky, made to my specs for around $100 ish. This turned out to be a very nice cue. I had the impression that this wasn't your typical Valley cut in half and turned a few times but something actually turned from stock. Anyways, it turned out to be so good that I got an offer for it that was a rather nice profit for me, so I couldn't really turn it down, but it was and remains a very nice cue

I've been trying to make time to go see Brady. Nice work, eh? That's what I was hoping.

EDIT: How did you hook up with Brady if you are in Colorado? Off the beaten path for you, no? I never heard of him til I moved down here.

because its your first

Ill help you out and sell you one of mine for $100.00 they sell (and have been here in australia) for $199.99 , the only thing is shipping will be extra

thanks

Eamonn
